Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management Research Conducts 4th International Research Conference
Marketing Research Papers Presented from B-schools Across India

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 / IndiaPRLine / — Great Lakes Institute of Management, a leading management institute in the country, founded by Prof. Bala V Balachandran, today conducted the Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management Research’s 4th International Research Conference at the Great Lakes campus in Chennai.

Yale – Great Lakes Center for Management Research aims to promote, facilitate and advance India-centric Management related research, which contributes to the development of basic and applied knowledge in the field of management. In its 4th meet, the International Research Conference had various research papers presented on the theme, “Managing Responsibly with Confidence” and on areas of business and management including finance, human resources, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior and strategy.

The conference had distinguished speakers such as Bala V. Balachandran from Northwestern University, Seenu V. Srinivasan from Stanford University and Venkat R. Krishnan, Great Lakes Institute of Management.

Vasanthi Srinivasan from IIM Bangalore, Siva Nathan from Georgia State University, Navniet Sekera, I.P.S., Lucknow and Gerrit F. A. De Vylder from Leuven University Belgium were the key note speakers at the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Bala V. Balachandran said, “Yale-GLIM Centre for Management Research is a platform for faculty exchanges, joint research, concurrent case studies and presenting research that helps create an academic symbiosis between the two management institutions. The Karma Yoga initiative which has enduring commitment towards inclusive development and the Platinum Rated Green Campus are a testimony to Great Lakes Institute of Management’s contribution towards incubating leaders who genuinely value giving back to the society.”

Mr Shyam Sunder, James L Frank Professor of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Yale School of Management said, “The recently concluded Copenhagen summit has proved that Heads of State have a binding commitment towards their own populace which is often conflicting to the kind of resolute determination that is imperative for sustenance of the planet. We hope this years research papers help the students develop there skills in management to help contribute to society.”

• ‘Vidyadeep is a nationwide scholarship program

• Out of these 1500 scholarships, 500 scholarships will be offered to students from North East region alone

Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education (SMU-DDE) today announced the launch of Vidyadeep, a nationwide scholarship program for 1500 meritorious and deserving students of SMU-DE programs across India. Out of these 1500 scholarships, 500 scholarships will be offered to students from the North East alone. This scholarship is a ‘first of its kind pioneering initiative’ in the field of distance education in the country!

At the 2nd National Learning Centre Convention at Mysore on 14th December 2009, in the presence of representatives from more than 400 learning centres of SMU-DDE in India, Brand Ambassador for Manipal Education, Anil Kumble, and Brig. (Retd.) Dr. S.S. Pabla, Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University, launched ‘Vidyadeep’. Appreciating Manipal Group’s dedication and commitment towards education and healthcare, Anil Kumble applauded the efforts of SMU-DDE in making quality higher education accessible to students and aspirants from the hinterland of India. He said, “Vidyadeep is a laudable initiative to help deserving students realize their educational dreams. I am sure this is a milestone in itself. SMU-DDE is revolutionizing distance education in India providing access and equity to all its students.”

The scholarship programme is in the form of upto 100% tuition fee waiver for students currently in the 1st to 5th semester for the streams of IT, Management, Journalism & Mass Communication, Fashion, Hospitality & Tourism, Allied Health, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

Eligibility criteria include:

• Low family income
• Qualifying exam marks – an average of 45% and above
• Marks in last exam (for the 1st semester students)
