Dr. Ram Babu, CEO, General Carbon in India will speak on past successes in carbon credit generation and future scenario and potential in Asia at the upcoming Clean Power Asia conference and expo in Bangkok, from 28-30 June. Dr Babu is one of a distinguished list of high-level, global energy experts who will address some 300 delegates at the only event focusing on both renewable and cleaner fossil power.

Clean Power Asia will also give Thailand the opportunity to showcase its green track record and showcase the many investment opportunities the renewable energy industry offers. “Thailand is committed to the low-carbon pathway”, says Dr. Twarath Sutabutr, Deputy Director-General, Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, in Thailand’s Ministry of Energy.

With regards to investment opportunities in Thailand, the country’s ministry of Energy says alternative energy resources provide a practical link between the country’s agricultural competitive advantages and its domestic energy needs. Dr. Sutabutr explains: “Thailand is committed to the Low-Carbon pathway, as stated in the new National Economic and Social Development Plan (11th plan), due to the fact that Thailand is a net-importer of fossil fuels. The only way to be independent from the importation is to go along the “Green and Clean Energy” corridor, including Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency and maybe Nuclear Energy.”

Thailand’s ministry of Energy and the local utilities, EGAT and PEA ENCOM, are officially supporting Clean Power Asia, during which some 300 delegates will hear from power experts from more than 14 countries in the region who will report back on renewable and cleaner fossil power projects including from Thailand, Singapore, Korea, China, the Philippines, India, Australia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, India, Pakistan and Iran.

Thailand’s current steps towards the Clean Energy pathway
The two site visits on the programme of Clean Power Asia will offer delegates the rare opportunity to explore two of the most prominent solar power projects in Thailand, namely the Ned Project, which is the world’s largest silicon thin-film solar farm, and the BCP solar power project.

Renewable investment opportunities in Thailand include:

Ethanol: The Energy Ministry has already short listed 15 local biomass power plants for foreign company investment, under the United Nations’ Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol.

Solar Cells: Thailand continues to make significant strides in solar generated electric capacity. Currently, much of Thailand’s solar-panels are made for export, but solar energy development now also offers great potential for filling a domestic energy demand, particularly in remote rural and mountainous regions.

Wind Power: The Thai government offers subsidies for electricity produced by wind power. In a recent example of this technology’s potential, a tapioca flour processing plant, eliminated the 8,000 liters/day of fuel oil formerly used in the production process, and cut 40% in production costs.

Biodiesel: The government has a target of 4.25 million litres/day of biodiesel, for a 7% consumption substitute of diesel by the year 2011. Palm oil, one of the most readily available inputs for biodiesel production can be found in abundant quantities in Thailand.

More highlights from the Clean Power Asia programme include:
Renewable power:
• China WindPower plans to build and operate up to 800 MW of new wind farms by 2012
• Keys to success from Southeast Asia’s largest solar power plant project in Thailand

Business opportunities promises to heat up the bilateral relations of India and Brazil during The India Show in Brazil.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Embassy of India in Brazil organized The India Show for the first time in Brazil. With seventy companies from India participating in the exhibition, the event promises to increase the relations between the two countries.

During the Inaugural ceremony, Mr. Shubhendu Amitabh, Chairman of the Latin American and Caribbean Committee of Confederation of Indian Industry and Senior President The Aditya Birla Group said that the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics, the Rio de Janeiro, in 2016, can be vectors of growth of bilateral relations in the sector of infrastructure and logistics.

The Indian government’s goal is to reach $ 10 billion trade surplus between the countries in 2011, he said, and whilst the movement of cooperation is still small, it has been continuous . During his address he stated that both countries should increase their trade basket and do joint ventures to cater not only for their own markets, but for third parties also, for example, to African and Asian countries.

Mr. Roberto Paranhos de Riobranco, President of the India Brazil Chamber of Commerce, said the socio-economic environment is similar in the two countries, which motivates the development of joint projects. He said that it is necessary to implement programs to promote science and technology in universities and the private sector for development of various sectors such as logistics and infrastructure, as they are considered outdated in Brazil.

Mr. Alessandro Teixeira, Deputy Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil, believes that despite of the current scenario which is unpromising, bilateral relations will strengthen in the coming years. “Till 2002, 75% of Brazilian trade relations were concentrated in just four partners, among them the United States, Argentina and two other European countries”.

Today, India is the 16th trading partner in exports from Brazil, while Brazil is the 10th supplier of products to India. According to Mr. Teixeira, the interest of both governments is in promoting business promises to improve this rate. He also said that they will constitute a monitoring mechanism to mark trade and introduce actions for cooperation with India”

Mr.Teixeira stated that more effective communication channels are required to enhance the relationship in business. “Just as they are with the United States.” He also proposed regular meetings with Brazilian and Indian CEOs . It is necessary for India to recognize Brazil´s food power, he said. Governments want to strengthen cooperation, especially in agribusiness. “Next year, Brazil will be the largest food producer in the world, which should spark the interest of the Indian government,” said the Deputy Minister.

According to Mr. Vinod Sachdeva, charge d’affaires of the Embassy of India in Brazil, there is a great waste of food in India and Brazil has a superior technology and knowledge in food processing that we can use t to our advantage.

Mr. Sachdeva also announced the cultural festival of India in Brazil in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, from 19 May to 5 June, Which will have Indian presentations of music and folk dance. During that same period, Embassy will also open an Indian cultural center in Sao Paulo. “We hope to exchange not only in art but also in business.

The exhibitor catalogue was released by Mr. Teixeira during the inauguration.

An important Panel discussion on Business opportunities between Indian and Brazil took place with the panelists Mr. Ranjit Panigrahi, Director, M.N. Dastur & Company (P) Ltd, Mr. Gastão Giometti , Coordination-General of Organization for Export, Department of International Promotion of Agronegócio, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Geraldo Rinaldi , Corporate Strategy– Sindipeças, Mr. Jose Renato Ferreira –Exec. Coordinator, Petrobras ,Mr. Rakesh Vaidyanathan, The Jai Group and Mr. Lior Pinsky, Veirno Advocates , where the importance of sectors like Mining, Agriculture, Auto and Oil and Gas and Agri collaboration contributing to business opportunities was discussed..

The Inaugural session concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Virendra Gupta, Senior Director and Head Trade Fairs, Confederation of Indian Industry.

Premier Wen Jiabao outlines four pronged strategy to deepen co-operation.

India and China are partners in economic progress and co-operation, and the two countries can gain substantially by leveraging on each other’s strengths, declared H.E. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the People’s Republic of China. Speaking at the India – China Business Cooperation Summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), here today, he said “I do not agree with the notion that China and India are competitors, instead they are partners in co-operation.”

Elaborating on the greater role the two countries are playing in the World affairs, Premier Wen Jiabao said India and China can learn from each other in dealing with the Rest of the World, and added that the two can co-operate in reforming various multilateral organizations and also successfully concluding the stalled Doha Round of negotiations of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Encouraging the business communities of the two countries to play a greater role in deepening the bilateral ties, Premier Wen Jiabao expressed his commitment towards greater business co-operation and asked the business community to “seize various opportunities that the rise of two great civilizations is offering”.

Premier Wen Jaibao also outlined a four-pronged strategy for deepening co-operation between India and China. Firstly, he said the current levels of bilateral trade are far below the true potential and expressed the need to explore full opportunities to achieve greater levels of bilateral trade. He also called for launching the free trade agreement negotiations between India and China. Second, he said, creating a sound investment environment in the two countries would further deepen the partnership and called for exploring the possibility of signing a two-way investment promotion agreement. Third, he expressed the need for expanding the areas of co-operation and increasing the number of direct flights between two countries. Finally, he called for greater business to business exchange to promote business co-operation and the setting up of India – China CEO’s Forum.

Welcoming Premier Wen Jiabao, Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, said India and China are on a journey of friendship and co-operation and added that the importance of relationship between the two countries would increase significantly in coming decades. He also talked about the presence of common interests of the two countries in deepening the co-operation. Mr. Sharma expressed hope that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Premier Wen Jiabao would set up an even higher two-way trade target, which already stood at US$ 60 billion.

Also speaking at the session, Mr. Gao Hucheng, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, attributed close bilateral relationship between the countries to greater business – to – business exchange and expressed commitment to attain closer business ties.

Mr. Hari S Bhartia, President, Confederation of Indian Industry, in his welcome address said the visit of the Chinese Premier coincided with the 60th establishment of diplomatic ties between India and China and therefore is of special significance in strengthening bilateral relationship between the two countries. He informed that China was India’s largest and fastest growing partner and expressed the need to make India-China relationship a win-win partnership. Mr. Bhartia also called for addressing the challenge of India’s huge trade deficit vis-à-vis China, stating that it was unsustainable.

India needs re-development: Pachauri; A Climate Deal at Cancun Possible: Delbeke

BRUSSELS, Addressing the opening session of the 11th India-EU Business Summit, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said that the world needs a new development paradigm, or redevelopment. He defined redevelopment as a model that ensured that allows the present generation to meet their material needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. Dr. Pachauri complimented the organizers for choosing sustainable development as the theme for the 11th India-EU business summit and said that India and EU are natural partners in the process of sustainable development. Pointing to the fact that the EU already was a world leader in the process of re-development that focused on greater sustainability of natural resource use, he said that Indian businesses could seek strategic partnerships with EU counterparts in this area.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General CII, said that India and EU are embarking on a unique experiment in which a large industrialized economic grouping like the EU and large sub-continental emerging economy like India are entering into a bilateral trade agreement. Mr. Banerjee felt that a successful bilateral agreement would also provide a catalyst for cooperation in the area of green technology and technology for clean energy.

Also addressing the opening session of the India-EU Business Summit was Mr. Jos Delbeke, the lead official for climate change negotiations at the Cancun talks. Mr. Delbeke was of the opinion that a possible deal is in the offing at Cancun, and that negotiations in South Africa next year would enable the international community to design a successor to the Kyoto Protocol

India-EU Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement will be finalized by Spring of 2011

Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister Commerce and Industry, was optimistic that the India-EU Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement will be successfully concluded by spring of 2011. The Minister was addressing the Plenary session of the 11th India-EU Business Summit being held in Brussels. Mr. Sharma referred to the fact that while there were challenges and disagreements, both sides have made a firm commitment to the idea of free trade. Mr. Sharma reminded the delegates present at the summit that both India and EU have pushed on with negotiations despite the adverse impact of the global economic crisis and the increase in protectionist tendencies that went against the idea of trade liberalization as represented by the India-EU BTIA. The Minister pointed out that the governments were just putting the building blocks in place, it is now upto businesses to use this agreement to make the India-EU bilateral trade and economic relationship one the drivers of global commerce.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Karel de Gucht, the EU Trade Commissioner, complimented the hard work done by officials of both countries in keeping the momentum going in the negotiations for the EU-India BTIA. Mr. de Gucht said that the real owners of this agreement were the business communities of both countries who have stayed engaged with each other and provided support to both governments to make this trade agreement a possibility.

In his remarks, Mr. Hari Bhartia, President CII and Co-chairman Jubilant Bhartia Group, said that India and the EU are natural partners. Mr. Bhartia said that India’s demand for infrastructure development, and need to invest in skilling upto 500 million young workers in the coming years provided a huge opportunity for EU businesses. He stressed on the fact that as EU businesses globalize, they would need to leverage the skills available in emerging economies like India. Welcoming the optimism of the Ministers, Mr. Bhartia said that the Indian industry is looking forward to a successful completion of the India-EU BTIA. He reminded the audience that both India and EU economies share the commonality of having a large SME sector that is the backbone of their economy, especially exports. A successful EU-India BTIA would reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers that impose far greater costs proportionally on SMEs then they do on large firms, and reduce their ability to participate in global markets, he said.

India’s position in Cancun-International Consultation and Analysis (ICA)

As the negotiators battle it out at Cancun to pave way for a deal in climate change, India circulated a proposal called International Consultation and Analysis (ICA), as a middle path on the controversial issue of transparency on mitigation actions. This mechanism would essentially mean third-party monitoring of domestic targets and mitigation actions, something that violates the basic premise of the global climate debate.

CSE comes down hard on proposal to allow international scrutiny of domestic targets

Says the proposal on international measurement and verification of domestic targets is an uncalled for compromise at best and will not yield any positive result

Will ultimately lead to the removal of distinction between developed and developing nations

What we need is an agreement on the critical issue of funding and funding mechanisms, as well as transfer of technology for mitigation

The world needs drastic emission reduction targets, not a compromise to whitewash the world’s biggest pollution, namely the US.

New Delhi, December 3, 2010: The strategy paper on ICA circulated by India at Cancun can best be described as a compromise and the proposal by the Union environment ministry on international measurement and verification of domestic targets will be counter-productive, ultimately leading to removal of distinction between developed and developing nations. The proposal is an ill-disguised effort on the part of India to be a deal-maker for the US,” said Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).

The ministry regards the Copenhagen Accord as a grand bargain where Annex 1 countries agreed to provide fast track finance (US $30 billion) for adaptation in vulnerable countries like Bangladesh and Maldives. In return, emerging economies (the countries in the BASIC group) agreed to a regime where their actions would be measured, reviewed and verified (MRV).

Points out CSE director Sunita Narain, “It is important to understand that MRV is a tool to remove differences between Annex 1 and non-Annex 1 nations. Therefore, even if our mitigation actions are voluntary and domestic, now they will be both reported and verified. This becomes a backhand way of breaching the firewall between industrialized countries with historical emissions and responsibility to cut emissions and the rest of the world, which needs the rights to development. This is why the US has made it clear that all other action in the negotiations will be dependent on the progress made in this area.”

Understandably, many countries are not in favour of the compromised solution on MRV and believe that the industrialized world has done too little on its part of the bargain, for any further concessions to be made. The Indian environment minister had first tabled the strategy paper before the conference of parties at Mexico City in which the new term ICA was coined for MRV. He also reportedly proposed that “all countries whose emissions have crossed 1-2 per cent of world GHG emissions will take on MRV/ICA”.

This would mean that there are only six countries who will qualify to be on that list — China, US, Russia, India, Japan and Germany. This way, CSE points out, the distinction between Annex 1 countries and the rest will be removed.

Deal-maker for the US? Why?

Says Narain: “It is not clear why India wants to be the deal-maker for the US at this stage. The US has not given lived up to its basic and minimum agreement, arrived at Copenhagen. They have not made any funds available. Why are we bending backwards to make even more concessions, without getting anything in return?”

In Copenhagen, the industrialized world had agreed that it would make US$ 30 billion available between 2010-2012 to pay for adaptation cost in the most vulnerable countries and that this financing would be ramped up to US$ 100 billion by 2020. This was itself a pittance of what was actually needed. But what is worse is that no new and additional funds have been made available and now the developing world is being told that it must go to the private sector to look for funding.

The Copenhagen Accord is fundamentally flawed for this reason as it changes the basic framework of the climate agreement, which asks for drastic action from the historical polluters and provides the rights to development for emerging countries. India in the past has rightly made it clear that it is not looking for the right to pollute but is demanding a framework, which will make transition to clean and low carbon energy.

It is also a fact, says CSE that the US has gone back on its commitment to cut emissions. In Copenhagen it had agreed to a weak and pathetic target of 17 per cent below 2005 levels, which translates to 3 per cent below 1990 levels. Now it says it cannot even do this. It says it will try and do close to 14 per cent below 2005 levels, which means no cuts at 1990 levels. This, when it is well accepted, based on science and politics that the US, has to cut up to 40 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020.

The Indian government, points out Chandra Bhushan, CSE’s deputy director, must work towards commitment of deep emission cuts from the developed countries by 2020. As a recent report by the UNEP clearly shows, all the pledges made under Copenhagen Accord are still not sufficient to keep the world under the 2 degree target. “The Indian government must insist on a commitment by developed countries to 40 per cent emission cuts by 2020 from the 1990 baseline.”

Says Narain: “CSE believes that Cancun must focus on the urgent need to cut emissions in fast warming world. It is evident that the industrialized countries continue to renege on their promise of cutting emissions at the scale that is needed. They want to pass the pain of the transition to countries like India. India must make it clear that we want an effective and equitous deal. Nothing less is acceptable.”

Warsaw 24th November 2010; The Polish Border Guard service, represented by the Commander, will appear at a Warsaw city Court on the 25th November to answer charges that they harass SIkhs passing through Polish airports.

The Court action has been taken by Shaminder Puri, a British Sikh, who has long term business and personal connections with Poland and has been traveling in and out of the Country for over 40 years. Puri is a graduate of the University of Warsaw and is also the Secretary General of the International Association of Hydrogeologists.

The Court action is supported by the Helsinki Foundation, a Human Rights Organisation active in Poland in support of human right violations. The law firm Messsrs Wardynski of Poland are working pro bono on the Case.

This Case has aroused significant interest in the country as it is a precedent setting case against a public body. An earlier Action by the Border Guard to fine Mr Puri for his demand that he be checked by routine methods and not necessarily by a priori removing his turban, has been referred by a Warsaw Court to the Constitutional Tribunal, as possibly being un constitutional.

Between October 2009 through to September 2010, the Border Guard service at Frederick Chopin International Airport repeatedly and maliciously harassed Mr Puri on each appearance to catch a flight on business destinations. He was not the only one. Other Sikhs resident and working in Poland have also been harassed, said Mr Charanjit Singh Walia a restaurant owner with a business history in Poland of over 10 years. The Skih Gyani’s working in the Sikh Gurudwara of Warsaw have also been mis treated in this manner.

The action being brought by Shaminder Puri is a claim that his human rights have been violated. However the outcome of the Case will be of interest to all Sikhs passing through Poland and other Countries where such violations may take place.

The India Israel Forum held under the auspices of Tel Aviv University and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), met for the 3rd time in New Delhi on 1-2 November 2010. Many leading Indian and Israeli Government & business leaders participated at this Forum, which is an annual track II dialogue between India Israel aimed at strengthening the bilateral relationship and formulating a strategy to achieve this. The Forum is co-chaired by Mr Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman and CEO, Henry Schein Inc and Aharon Fogel, Chairman, Migdal Insurance and Financial Holdings Ltd & Chairman, Ness Technologies, from the Israeli side and by Mr Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd & Mr Tarun Das, President, Aspen India, from the Indian side.

The two-day forum discussed and deliberated on opportunities in business cooperation and technological collaboration between India and Israel in areas biomedicine, biotechnology, water technology, alternative energy and ecology. In the framework of the Forum, which is a closed Forum, a special open session was organised for Indian Industry, where the Israeli side presented their achievements in the areas of innovation and technology and encouraged the Indian Industry participants to engage more actively in the area of R&D and technological cooperation with Israel.

While the bilateral trade volumes have grown at a rapid pace to scale US$4.5 – 4.7 billion, senior government officials and business leaders who attended the Forum emphasized the need for the diversification of the bilateral trade basket. Mr Kapil Sibal, Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India, during the interaction with Israeli companies invited them to also participate in the development of Indian education sector where 800 new universities are needed to be set up.

At a broader level, the thought leaders opined that the bilateral partnership would draw strength from the superior R&D and innovation capabilities of industries and institutions in Israel and the large consumer market in India. The innovations and cutting edge solutions developed in Israeli R&D institutions could be effectively commercialized in the large Indian market, they observed.

The participants called for the setting up of a joint fund for the promotion of bilateral businesses, which would assist private firms to take up high-risk projects, with government providing due risk coverage. An India-Israel Venture Capital Fund was also recommended to allow investments in start-ups. It was also said that apart from business collaborations, the academia in both countries should also explore for focused collaborative research and exchange programmes. In this, Tel Aviv University expressed particular interest in receiving Indian students interested in pursuing post-doctoral studies.

The survey also dispels the myth that Indian firms operating in the US typically hire India workers and shows that Indian firms have been aggressively hiring US workers, and a large majority of the workers in their US operations are US citizens.

A very interesting finding of the CII survey is that Indian firms have been actively engaged as stakeholders in community development. From participating in developing library programs, health research, and skilling of college graduates. ‘These examples of deep integration of these firms in the economic and social fabric of the communities in the US that they inhabit show that Indian business is in the US for the long-term and see themselves as partners in the resurgence of the US economy’, said Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General CII. Mr. Banerjee added that the ‘resurgence of the US economy is essential to the stability of the global economy, and we are all stakeholders in that process’.

Press Release – Scottish Cyclist Invites India To Join Him For 8 km To Become Part Of A World Wide Team

A Scots cyclist is attempting to visit all 72 countries competing in the Commonwealth Games before returning to new host city, Glasgow, in 2014.

Sean Newall, 27, from Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, cycled from Glasgow to India to attend the closing ceremony of the 2010 Games in Delhi.

It was the first stage of a 32,000 Kilometer round-the-world bike ride.

Mr Newall is using the expedition – and three others – to raise cash for the United Nations children’s fund, Unicef.

The first challenge, which Mr Newall has named World Cycle, involves a 32,000 Kilometer round-the-world bike ride, taking in 13 Commonwealth countries.

He set off from Glasgow’s George Square on 23 July and reached Delhi in time for the closing ceremony completing a distance of 8500 kilometers through 12 countries. He said, “I’ve been through Scotland, England, Holland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan and then India.

On Sunday 31 of October he is inviting residents of Kolkata to join him for 8km. Mr. Newall has already had many people from smaller villages and towns join him in India. But it is now the chance of the big cities to take centre stage and really show how great a country India really is.

Sean explained, “This is a unique opportunity to be part of a world wide event that has already had people from around the world join. Not only will you be part of the team but you will represent India.”

The meeting point is at Elliot Park, at the Indira Gandhi Statue at 13:00. All that is required is that you have a bicycle and come along for an 8km cycle. When it is completed all of those that join will be part of the world wide team.

From here he will continue on his quest to cycle the commonwealth by heading off to Bangladesh, before returning to India to head south toward Chennai for another 8km event on the 21st of November. This will conclude his visit to India.

“My main concern is that only a few will join for 8km compared with the interest shown from other commonwealth countries such as Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand. If only a few join, this would not be a fair representation of a country that has shown me overwhelming hospitality. Thousands will have to join to get close to how great India has been!”
The cyclist aims to return home on 23 May 2011, having visited countries in Europe, Oceania, Asia and North and Central America all by bicycle.

To follow his progress, see his current location or contact about joining for 8km visit

MARG Limited the integrated infrastructure company to work closely with Australian Trade Commission to explore business opportunities in Australia. MARG JOINS HANDS WITH AUSTRALIAN TRADE COMMISSION THROUGH BUSINESS CLUB AUSTRALIA.

Chennai, October 12, 2010: MARG Limited, India’s fastest growing integrated infrastructure company, today announced that it will work actively with the Australian Trade Commission through BCA (Business Club Australia), with a view to connecting with potential Australian Business Houses & Universities to further the company’s business ventures in Australia and India.

BCA is the Australian Government’s official business networking program around truly global sporting events. This program is owned and led by the Australian Government’s trade and Investment development agency, the Australian Trade Commission.

The objective of BCA is to:

§ Promote Australia internationally as a strong business partner

§ Target and promote strategic industry sectors around specific events

§ Provide a platform for business matching services for Australian Clients

At the backdrop of the CWG games being held in India, BCA has organised a platform at the Australian High Commission wherein Indian Business houses and Australian counterparts participate to network with each other & explore the different possibilities of doing business in the different sectors. People at the top echelons of several companies (both private & public sector) gather at the venue and exchange thoughts and possibilities of business ventures.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. GRK Reddy, Chairman & Managing Director, MARG Group said, “Australia is a globally competitive location for business. Strong institutions, flexible markets and effective and well-targeted economic policies provide a very solid platform for business. In addition, political stability and a sound regulatory climate strongly support business growth. At MARG we believe in making commitments based on our conviction, and seeing them through ‘no matter what’. The primary goal of MARG is to increase stakeholder value. With strong support from BCA, we hope to explore business possibilities with and in Australia in the fields of mining, vocational training collaboration and development of water sports. We are thankful to Austrade for providing us with this wonderful opportunity.”

BCA India 2010 includes business matching activities through a highly targeted industry specific mission.

MARG will explore opportunities in the following 3 spaces with and / or in Australia:

· Vocational Training Collaboration: Vocational Training Collaboration: Indian Infrastructure sector is undergoing a major transformation. The Indian Government led initiatives like the DMIC & the DFC will entail an expenditure of more than 100,000 Crores INR (Ref Mr. Amitabh Kanth, Chairman DMIC), over a decade. But our country is lacking the trained manpower resources who will be executing this at the forefront. There is a huge shortage of trained manpower in the trades of construction, Engineering related disciplines. This is because the Vocational training platform in India is not a well established one and is not integrated with the Industry.

Australia has innovative approaches in Vocational training. Trades Training Centers which is part of Schools program, a $2.5 billion initiative designed to address Australia’s skills needs by providing greater opportunities for secondary students to participate in vocational education and training while still at school. We are working with Austrade in finding the right partners for establishing a Vocational training platform which will help in bridging the skilled manpower resources gap in India. We at Marg Swaranbhoomi are working with Indian Corporate & Australian Bodies in creating world class Infrastructure and establish high quality standards in bridging this resources gap.

· Mining: Mining in Australia is a major Industry as the country is rich in mineral reserves like coal, gold, iron ore etc. A lot of Indian companies also import coal & iron ore through the eastern coast of India. Looking at the huge Energy needs of India in the next 2 decades, a lot of Indian conglomerates over the last few years have invested in Australian mines and many more will do so to get strong linkages in the domestic operations. We are touching base with different organizations & Institutions with Indian Corporate & Australian companies to give a major boost to both creating supporting Infrastructure for Mines in Australia and also on the cargo business at our ports where over 80% of the bulk Cargo consists of Coal.

§ Development of Water Sports: Australian universities like Australian National University are ranked in top 20 in world when it comes to water sports. They are analyzed on their deliverables, alumni feedback and industry feedback etc. Since there is a huge demand for skilled professional in different water sports in India, Australia Universities & Sporting Bodies are the ideal choice to tie up with to start up a world renowned water sports academy at MARG Swarnabhoomi.
