New Delhi, India, 2^nd March 2011: Key stakeholders from retail, producers, traders and Government showed their commitment to introduce GLOBALG.A.P based standards for farm assurance in India. This was the consensus among the delegates of the kick-off event for the GLOBALG.A.P TOUR 2011, celebrated in New Delhi.

The Conference day was opened with a keynote address of Thomas Varghese, CEO of Abitya Birla Retail, who also spoke in his role as Chairman of the CII Retailer Committee. Mr Varghese called to launch education drives across India to enlighten farmers on sustainable agricultural practices which includes usage of safe pesticides, soil management, irrigation and water management, and environmental considerations. The public and the private sector should offer incentives to adopt sustainable agriculture practices.

The Indian Government supports the step-wise introduction of quality standards down to the production level and will invest in capacity building and the development of an Indian standard based on GLOBALG.A.P. production efficiencies shall be increased in medium term by establishing a sound Good Agricultural Practice in the country.

Sanjeev Chopra, Joint Secretary (Agriculture) & Mission Director, National Horticulture Mission, India stated: „The main objective of our initiative is to involve local producers, traders and retail to improve the quality of products for the Indian consumers.“ 
Retailers are fully supporting this initiative. „We are committed to continuously improve the quality of Indian products offered in our shelves. We are currently working with several producer groups to establish quality and food safety standards.“ Said Mr. D.V. Ram Kumar, Vice President – Food & Consumer Durables, Spencers Retail Ltd. India.

The Quality Council of India (QCI) has the mandate from the Indian Government to work on the establishment of national and international standards such as GLOBALG.A.P in India. QCI acts as host organization of the GLOBALG.A.P National Technical Working Group in India. The group unites retailers, producer associations, government representatives and different service providers. The group has developed the National Interpretation Guideline for Version 4 of the GLOBALG.A.P Standard that will be recognized by GLOBALG.A.P in due course.

During the afternoon it became very clear that the focus would be on strategies to introduce small producers to the concept of Good Agricultural Practice. Several speakers presented their cases and experiences in working with clusters of small producers.

Mr. Bradford Roberts commented: IFC is involved in several capacity building projects and activities. „The future challenge will be to learn from those pilots and to scale it up to reach out to mainstream production. We are committed to work on that together with all actors involved.“

Renault Nissan plant receives ISO Certification for Quality and Environment Management. Plant received ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and also Homologation – whole vehicle type approval for European

Chennai, August 26, 2010: Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. (RNAIPL) today announced that it has received ISO certifications for Quality – ISO 9001 and Environment Management system – ISO 14001. The plant has also received Homologation – whole vehicle type approval for European market in a short span of time from the Start of Production on 23^rd May, 2010. RNAIPL receives these 3 certificates, at a significant time when it is ramping up production and gearing up to commence Export operations of its Global compact hatch – Nissan Micra.

Commenting on the receipt of ISO Certification, Mr. Akira Sakurai, M.D. and CEO RNAIPL, said,

“Quality is always our primary focus and we wanted to achieve best quality from the very beginning of our operations. The certification has come in at a right time as we march ahead with our India operations and this is also a testimony to our quality excellence system and socio-environmental methodology that we have adopted at our Plant. This is again an area where the Plant is looking to benchmark, as the current standard for ‘Global Top Performer’ is 4 years from the start of Production.

Infosys BPO awarded 5-Star Rating by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). 5-star rating signifies being the most energy efficient

Bangalore, India – May 13, 2010: Infosys BPO, the business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys Technologies, today announced that it has been awarded the 5-star rating for energy efficiency by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for its building located in its Phase 2 campus in Hinjewadi, Pune, India. The rating is under the “Star rating for BPO buildings” scheme of BEE that rates office buildings in India from which BPO services are rendered on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, where a 5-star rating signifies being the most energy efficient. The rating is valid for a period of 5 years.

The eligibility criteria included the overall energy usage efficiency and minimization of operation costs of the BPO building. The 5-star rating was an outcome of using higher efficiency products that enabled reduction in the energy consumption in the building. The building spans a total area of 25,577 square metres and the annual energy consumption is approximately 2406199 kWh.

VeriSign Exceeds 2 Billion Certificate Checks in a Single Day
In Less Than a Year, VeriSign Doubles Its Daily Tally of Online Certificate Status Protocol Checks
