In the initiative Welingkar will work with the Yuvak Biradari and Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (<a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/mchi/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with MCHI">MCHI</a>).<br />
Mumbai Bhushan, the ‘Best’ Housing Society competition judges the best societies taken from all the six constituencies of Mumbai on basis of parameters like hygiene, security, disaster preparedness, administration and <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/management/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with management">management</a>, congeniality, welfare , water, energy, social awareness and similar others. It embraces all the six constituencies of Mumbai and has invited participation from them.<br />
Dr Uday Salunkhe , Group Director, Welingkar <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/education/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Education">Education</a>, welcomed the guests who included the Senior Journalist Kumar Ketkar, Shri Kranti Shah, Managing Trustee, Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) and the project Chairman, Shri Mohan Deshmukh, President MCHI and Shri Govind Swarup, Former Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, Housing and. Special Assistance Department.<br />
Kumar Ketkar shared his views on the changing social dynamics in the Mumbai Society appreciating the social relevance and need of initiative like Mumbai Bhushan.</p>
<p>WeSchool is associated with the Mumbai Bhushan “Best” Housing Society as the academic partner. WE School students, under the dynamic leadership of Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Education, will be actively participating in the event as they conduct social audits, will get a real life insight into citizens’ psyche, will get a hands-on experience of societal issues regarding security, citizens’ welfare, environmental concerns, etc and will contribute in making a positive contribution to society.</p>
<p>Welingkars role in the project: The initiative requires student teams working along with eminent jury members to roll out the competition across various housing societies in Mumbai. The timeframe for the same will be between 26th December 2011 and 25th January 2012. Student volunteers will render their support for the initiative as members of the audit committees who will actually visit the housing societies during the course of the competition within the seven zones identified across Mumbai city. The result of these audits will lead to the winners being announced. We School has also helped to develop the various parameters of the competition</p>
<p>Welingkar has joined hands with Yuvak Biradari on many socially relevant projects in the past. Project ‘Udaan’ for Entrepreneurship training to rural youth and Vasundhara Bachao ’ –‘ Save the Earth campaigns are a few of these.</p>
<p>Speaking on the occasion Dr Uday Salunkhe said, “The event would sensitize the students to their social responsibility and give a firsthand feel of societal issues regarding security, citizens’ welfare, environmental concerns, etc and will contribute in making a positive contribution to society. Also this would strengthen the social fabric along with promoting camaraderie among people which seems to be a disappearing intangible in modern times.”</p>
<p>The Concept-Design of the Mumbai Bhushan has been conceived by Kranti Shah, Managing Trustee, Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) and the project Chairman is Mohan Deshmukh, President MCHI.</p>

A day in the life of a Mobile Crèches Centre<br />

While the kids nap in the afternoon, the staff catches up on work. Notes are made, meetings planned, and reminders chalked out for health follow-ups and other important tasks<br />
Refreshed after a nap the children settle down on the mats or around low tables to focus on the afternoon activity of the day &#8211; painting, paper folding and pasting, and clay work &#8211; depending on the weekly plan and eagerly participate in the same giving self expression to their creative abilities.<br />

<p><strong>Delhi, India, 22 Nov, 2011:</strong>The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy (JCCD) and the South Asian Studies Council at Yale (Yale) released the preliminary findings from a 700 person multi-stakeholder dialogue held this week (November 17-20) in Mysore. The gathering, which brought together students, citizens, investors, policymakers, bureaucrats and academics from India and abroad, examined a series of key issues affecting the potential for India’s ongoing urban transition to contribute to sustainable, inclusive, growth. The meeting was the largest such gathering of urban experts in India and was an important step in bringing together and sharing findings between groups with deep experience and knowledge of urban economy, polity, culture, social services, infrastructure and ecological impacts among other topics.</p>

<p>A common theme across all the sessions was governance and India’s readiness to respond to India’s urban problems.  At a macro level, the debates surrounding the rate and level of urbanization in India, the growing but insufficient public investment in cities, the lack of attention to small and medium towns, importance of addressing the informal sector and dramatically increasing employment opportunities to address both urban and rural poverty, density levels in Indian cities, land prices, land acquisition and the peripheralization of the urban poor and vulnerable.  There was agreement on the importance of agglomeration economics and questions were raised on sustainability as India’s big cities grow larger.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Water is seen as a fundamental constraint and sanitation practices and groundwater quality were highlighted as the key problem areas. The evidence from the discussions suggest that about 70% of liquid waste remains untreated and leaches into the ground, therefore contaminating groundwater.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The critical role of political processes in focusing attention on the urban sector was highlighted.  There was a discussion around electoral reform and it was recognized that urban citizens are under-represented in the current political structure.  It was concluded that the current model of urban planning needs to be replaced by holistic planning, placing the city in the context of the region.  There is a revival of interest in town planning schemes and it was highlighted that inclusiveness should be a guiding principle for planners.  Legal, financial as well as institutional barriers to conservation and heritage activities emerged as a key highlight.</p>

<p>The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) also announced the three winners of san-kranti, the national Student Urban Challenge (<a href="http://www.transformurbanindia.com/">www.transformurbanindia.com</a>), a unique platform to bring together young people with diverse professional and educational backgrounds and talents to work together to solve real problems and enable change in their cities. The top ranked teams, namely ChaloBEST, Taramani Thunders and Deep Blue received IIHS technical support along with implementation grants of INR 3 Lakh each for their proposals to ‘transform urban India’. Over 170 teams covering 625 student participants from across the country registered for this unique innovation-and-implementation challenge launched by IIHS in July 2011. The teams were mentored by some of the country’s leading practitioners and entrepreneurs to hone their proposals to change the city, town or neighbourhood where they are living or studying in. This provided great scope for collaboration, peer-learning and multidisciplinary problem solving.</p>

<p>The Mysore meeting, hosted by Janaagraha, was the second in the series of “India Urban Conference 2011: Evidence and Experience” events. The first, an academic conference held at Yale University, examined scholarship from a range of disciplines. The third, a policy conference, hosted by IIHS, held in Delhi on 22 November, will introduce some of the key facets of urban change for discussion by a group of senior leaders from the local, state and national governments, academics, the private and civil society sectors.</p>

<p>The conference series has been undertaken with collaboration from the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. <p>According to the data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, 158 large projects (involving project cost above Rs 1000 crore) currently under various stages of implementation have seen a cost overrun of 21%. In other words, country has to spend Rs 1,00,497 crore more on these projects because of cost overrun. Application of latest technologies and newer project <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/management/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with management">management</a> concepts can help the country to reduce wastage and ensure efficient use of scarce resources.</p>

<p>Godrej Properties Limited (GPL) (BSE: GODREJPRP), the real estate development arm of the Godrej Group, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Godrej &amp; Boyce (G&amp;B). Godrej Properties will act as development manager and will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, sales, and marketing of all future development on the G&amp;B owned Vikhroli land.<span>  </span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>For its services, Godrej Properties will receive a fee equal to 10% of the total revenue generated from the development.<span>  </span>The costs for design and construction of the development will be borne by Godrej &amp; Boyce in its role as owner-developer while the cost for sales and marketing will be borne by Godrej Properties in its role as development manager.</p>
<p><span> </span></p>
<p>Over a period of time, the development potential at Vikhroli is likely to make it the largest real estate development in Mumbai.<span>  </span>The project will be constructed in phases and the details on each phase will be announced before the launch of the individual phase.<span>  </span>The development will have a mixed-use character and will have significant amounts of residential, commercial, retail, and landscaped spaces.</p>

<p>The first project under this agreement will start immediately with the launch of <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/godrej-platinum/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Godrej Platinum">Godrej Platinum</a>, a residential development of approximately 600,000 square feet.<span>  </span>Godrej Platinum comprises of four high-end residential towers on which construction has already begun.<span>   </span>This project is one of the first residential projects in the country to receive a LEED-Platinum precertification, which is the highest available certification for green buildings.<span>  </span>Godrej Platinum joins Godrej Properties&#8217; currently underway mixed-use 35-acre development, The Trees, as being among the first developments Godrej Properties is carrying out on the Group&#8217;s large Vikhroli estate.</p>
