			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hyderabad, Jan 8, 2012, The City will witness very eminent writers participating in the annual Hyderabad Literary Festival to be held from Jan 16th to 18th, 2012 at the Taramati Baradari Culture Complex. Prominent personalities include Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Mr Pavan Varma; the Oscar winning lyricist, Mr Gulzar; internationally reputed former BBC India correspondent, Mr Mark Tully; film director, Mr Saeed Mirza; and senior writers Adil Jussawalla, Kiran Nagarkar, Suniti Namjoshi and Meena Alexander. Several popular contemporary fiction writers like Amish Tripathi, Indu Sundaresan, Jaishree Mishra and Rahul Pandita will be discussing their work. So will several talented young regional writers from far corners of India. Thus, it will be a great bonanza for the city’s literature lovers, a not-to-be-missed opportunity.</p>
<p>The festival is open for all and admission will be free. Organisers are making arrangements for special buses to ply from Mehdipatnam to facilitate people to reach the venue conveniently.</p>
<p>Special contests are being held for College students on Sep 16th and 17th to provide a platform to showcase their creative talent. These include Street plays, Short films, Photography and Fusion Music composed, created or enacted by the students themselves. <p>Special programme in Creative Writing is being organised on Jan 18th for School Children (Stds VII to IX). This is with the objective of exposing them to good reading and writing habits. <p><strong>About The Author</strong></p>
<p>Born in 1993 in Bangalore, and currently a senior in a high school in Temecula, California, Lakshmi Prathivadi scripted this story that is set in pre-colonial India. The story draws from her childhood experiences in India, before moving to the US when she was eight. By applying modern writing techniques and style to a more traditional storyline, the book draws from various historical sources to portray a society bound by colonial chains. She first developed her zeal for writing in fourth grade, when she wrote short stories that were later published in the school publication. In middle school, she began to read a variety of books that inspired her to write her own book. In high school, she finally decided to script a story that related to her own background after she visited India in 2009. Expecting only a relaxing and fun-filled vacation, she instead found herself enthralled by the extent of Indian history. This book captures the essence of India in the 1930s when the country was embroiled in political upheaval and the social struggle for independence, which is revealed through the eyes of the protagonist Ram Sarvarkar. <p>Kavita Krishnamurthy is one of the most famous Indian film playback singers. She is classically trained and has sung a wide range of classical-based songs. In her career, she has worked with a variety of music composers, including R.D.Burman and A.R.Rahman. She is also the recipient of four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, including 3 consecutive awards in the period 1994-1996 and the Padmashri which she received in 2006..</p>
<p>In 1971, when she was still a child, she sang her first film song which happened to be a Bengali duet with renowned playback singer Ms. Lata Mangeshkar that was conducted by the music director Hemant Kumar. Kavita moved to Bombay with her aunt to try her luck as a playback singer. She has attended the St. Xavier&#8217;s College in Bombay and acquired a degree in Economics.</p>
<p>The music director and singer Manna Dey spotted her talent and employed her to sing ad jingles. Her aunt introduced her to Mrs. Jaya Chakravarthy, the late. mother of actress Hema Malini who later took the initiative of meeting Laxmikant (of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal) fame in late 1976.</p>
<p>Impressed by Kavitha&#8217;s skills, Laxmikant offered her work as a dubbing artiste cutting demos of songs intended for playback singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. In the 1980s &#8220;Kaahe Ko Byaahi&#8221; was the first song that was featured in a film using her own voice. In 1985, she landed her with her first major hit, &#8220;Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon&#8221;. In her struggle phase, Laxmikant-Pyarelal backed her so strongly that she was labelled as someone from the Lakshmikant-Pyarelal camp. After the success of &#8220;Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon&#8221;, it opened up opportunities for her outside the Laxmikant-Pyarelal camp, with which she had faithfully worked up to that point.</p>
<p>In 1994, when R D Burman staged a mind-blowing comeback with 1942: A Love Story, he selected Kavitha to sing for him. The music went on to be a superhit, unfortunately, Panchamda passed away. She went on to become one of the most popular female playback singers after Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. During the 1990s, she worked with some of the best music directors of India including Anu Malik, Jatin-Lalit, Nadeem-Shravan, Ismail Darbar, A R Rahman.</p>

<p><strong>About The Author</strong></p>
<p>Shrenik Mutha – reader, writer, aspiring scientist and an arts fanatic who comes nowhere near being a good painter or a singer – likes to read everything from romance to sci-fi. His mind connects to the sciences and his heart relates to literature. Born and brought up in the ever-growing city Pune, Maharashtra, Shrenik believes that the best way of expressing emotions is not through words, but eyes. Broken Hearts is his debut novel and he hopes to<br />
continue writing stuff that has inspired him to think that not all dreams come<br />
true. His favourite books being I Too Had a Love Story and The Grand Design,<br />
Shrenik considers Ravinder Singh and Stephen Hawkings as his idols. I would be lying if I said that I wrote this story to become an author when in reality; I<br />
became an author so that I could share this story. By the way, a part of the<br />
profit of the book will be donated to charity for the less privileged. –<br />

<p><strong>About the Chief Guest </strong></p>
<p>RANDHIR KHARE grew up in a politically and culturally turbulent Calcutta<br />
where his poetry began appearing in magazines and literary journals. Over the<br />
years, his poetry has been presented at readings across the country, in<br />
Bulgaria, (the former) Czechoslovakia, England, during lecture presentations on India, exhibition openings and arts festivals in Dublin and rural Ireland,<br />
adapted for national and international contemporary puppet theatre<br />
performances, used extensively in creative and educational workshops in Ireland and India, set to music, used by the Victoria and Albert Museum for their exhibition on Nehru and the Making of Modern India and has inspired the works of painters, illustrators, photographers, educationists and multi-media producers.</p>
<p>Most recently he has performed his poetry with a jazz band at the international writer’s festival in Indonesia, an Iranian santoor player, a tabla player and with the Chamber Singers – a choir based in Pune. His poems have been set to music by A.R.Rahman.</p>
<p>The poet’s drawings have been exhibited in Pune and Mumbai and have appeared in a number of his books.</p>
<p>He has published twenty volumes of poetry, short fiction, travel, a futuristic<br />
fable and a novel and is the recipient of Pegasus – the Union of Bulgarian<br />
Writers’ Gold Medal for Poetry and the Sanskriti Award for Creative Writing in<br />
India among other awards.</p>
<p>Randhir Khare has been Professor of Literature at Nowrosjee Wadia College in Pune and presently teaches in Poona College. He continues to work extensively on the cultural documentation of traditional and marginal communities in the country. He is the Executive Editor of Heritage<br />
India.</p>

Pankaj is currently working with an Indian MNC on a senior position in HR. He has recently shifted to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. Apart from being a corporate professional, he has been a visiting faculty at an MBA school of HR and a volunteer at an NGO.</p>
<p>Pankaj loves reading books, playing guitar, biking, travelling and networking.</p>
<p>Pankaj’s interview has been covered by Divya Bhaskar Newspaper, Ahmedabad edition, recently. He has also been interviewed by Radio One, Radio City and My FM in Gujarat.</p>
<p>Although the novel is work of fiction, it is inspired by real life experiences :-</p>
<p>The story revolves around the main character – Pradeep, a teenager from a typical middle-class family. Pradeep and his friends lived a life full of fun and adventures. They had all the money and time. Life was a rosy picture with girls, smoke, booze, sex and night-out escapades. It was their choice to live such a life &amp; they   continued even when &#8230;.. things took a bizarre turn and as an outcome of few small unexpected incidents, they started stealing cars. But they were smart, atleast that’s what they thought before getting thrown in the jail.</p>
<p>That was just the beginning for 15-years-old Pradeep. The fun continued; just that the definition of ‘fun’ kept changing for Pradeep. He had better things to do, scores to settle, a life to live and a journey to begin.</p>
<p>Meet the new age youngster of India – the one who believes in making a comeback and does it too!</p>
<p>In other words, the novel is a fun-filled, adventurous &amp; emotional story of a teenager and his journey to meet Santa Claus – the symbol of goodness in people.</p>

<p>‘but Santa came late’ has been published by Goyal Publishers under the banner of Pigeon Books during the Book Fair in Delhi early this year. The book also participated in the ‘18th Minsk International Book Fair’, Belarus, 9-13th Feb 2011. Pankaj has tried to keep the language easy and simple to understand. The novel focuses mainly on the life-style of today’s teenager and how a simple mistake can lead to disasters. But that’s not all – it also takes the reader on the joyride alongwith the protagonist when he makes his comeback in a heroic and courageous way.</p>
<p>Pankaj has been able to touch all the emotions fantastically that a person goes through across life.</p>

<p><strong>Chennai, India, 9<sup>th</sup> March 2011, </strong>Pollen Cubes, a multi-faceted edutainment company based in Chennai announced the winners of its maiden contest titled &#8216;Giant Quiz&#8217;, on Monday, 7<sup>th</sup> March 2011.</p>

<p>The contest was a simple three question quiz that was distributed in the form of leaflets to kids in Chennai. The theme was ‘giants’ and the quiz was designed to be fun and witty. With a short story that encouraged them to imagine things in giant size, they were asked to come up with what giant things they thought would make life better. Some of the interesting answers are, to name a few:  ‘a giant tree that would give a lot of oxygen for all’ and ‘a giant repellent that would kill all the mosquitoes.’</p>

<p>4556 kids from 23 top schools in Chennai participated in the contest. A panel of judges selected 27 winners from the 1238 correct entries that were received. The prizes are as follows-</p>
<p>A Nikon Digital Camera for the First place winner (R. Shubhang, V Std, Chinmaya Vidyalaya)</p>
<p>A Ladybird Dreamz bicycle for the Second place winner (L. Vedavalli, V Std, D, Gill Adarsh Matric Higher Sec School)</p>
<p>The third prize is for 25 winners, who are to receive tickets to Kung Fu Panda Part 2 for themselves as well as two members of their family. (The entire list of winners is available in the website – www.pollencubes.com)</p>

<p>Green Broccoli LLC, a Chicago based company, recently launched an interactive story book app titled -<strong>&#8220;Tales of Panchatantra: The Lion and the Hare&#8221;</strong> for the iPad and <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/iphone/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with iPhone">iPhone</a> devices. The story, which is an adaptation of the fable series Panchatantra, is targeted at children in the 2-10 years age group. The story is set in a contemporary setting, where the grandfather narrates the story to his grand kids.</p>
<p>The story is illustrated and presented in a manner to appeal to children. The app, which features two languages (English and Hindi), can either be played in auto mode with narration or in manual mode without narration. <p>There are many projections of the App store economics. According to one estimate by Booz Allen, a consulting firm, the app market is expected to generate $40B in annual revenues by 2014.</p>

<p>New Delhi 14 Jan 2011: &#8211; India&#8217;s premier paper merchant SONA Commercial (SCPL) has announced to launch <strong>CORDENONS COLLABORATIVE CALENDAR 2011</strong> on 20<sup>th</sup> January 2011 in New Delhi with the theme - <strong>&#8216;Indian Letterforms in 3D&#8217;</strong>.</p>
<p>The &#8216;Indian Letterforms in 3D&#8217; is first of its kind workshop conducted, which is aimed towards exploring a new aspect of Indian letterform design and derivation. The calendar work shop has been done by “Akshraya, the letter conscious people”, a Mumbai based NGO and Sona team.</p>
<p>“This is the first time in India that a calendar has been devoted to Indian scripts” says Raju Suneja,  Managing Director of Sona Commercial. SONA Commercial (SCPL) has been in the business of paper trading for over 4 decades and has got national coverage with 7 offices covering the country.</p>
<p>Sona also conducted a workshop in association with “Aksharaya” to expand – promote ‘letter’ as a concept and its form. No workshop and camp has been devoted to Indian scripts which have seen the participation of students, artists and professionals from Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai.</p>
<p>Sona launches theme calendars every year. In the year 2007, it started the concept of Cordenons Collaborative <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/calendar/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Calendar">Calendar</a>. “In 2007, the theme was typography, 2008 was-GREEN WAVE, 2009 was &#8211; AN IDEA WHOS TIME HAS COME. In 2009, we had sold these designs in canvas form and had raised some fund and that fund was donated to NDTV GREENATHONE” states Anup Verma Head Sales and Marketing of Sona Commercial.</p>
<p>The launch will be studded by Anmol Vellani, Raghu Rai, Rohit Chawala and the likes. Corporates from Ogilvy, JWT, Leo Burnett, BPTP, DLF and many others will also grace the occasion.</p>

<p>The overwhelming response on our last year endeavor, prompted us to bring out another addition of Collaborative calendar, and we call it Cordenons Collaborative Calendar 2010.  This Year the theme is &#8220;AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME&#8230; &#8220;.</p>
<p>Different designers have contributed their bit on social as well as environmental issues and a strong message has been floated to the society to save our mother earth and humanity.</p>
