But Santa Came Late book by Pankaj Pathak

Pankaj is a 27-years-young author. ‘but Santa came late’ is his debut novel. Pankaj is currently working with an Indian MNC on a senior position in HR. He has recently shifted to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. Apart from being a corporate professional, he has been a visiting faculty at an MBA school of HR and a volunteer at an NGO.

Pankaj loves reading books, playing guitar, biking, travelling and networking.

Pankaj’s interview has been covered by Divya Bhaskar Newspaper, Ahmedabad edition, recently. He has also been interviewed by Radio One, Radio City and My FM in Gujarat.

Although the novel is work of fiction, it is inspired by real life experiences :-

The story revolves around the main character – Pradeep, a teenager from a typical middle-class family. Pradeep and his friends lived a life full of fun and adventures. They had all the money and time. Life was a rosy picture with girls, smoke, booze, sex and night-out escapades. It was their choice to live such a life & they continued even when ….. things took a bizarre turn and as an outcome of few small unexpected incidents, they started stealing cars. But they were smart, atleast that’s what they thought before getting thrown in the jail.

That was just the beginning for 15-years-old Pradeep. The fun continued; just that the definition of ‘fun’ kept changing for Pradeep. He had better things to do, scores to settle, a life to live and a journey to begin.

Meet the new age youngster of India – the one who believes in making a comeback and does it too!

In other words, the novel is a fun-filled, adventurous & emotional story of a teenager and his journey to meet Santa Claus – the symbol of goodness in people.

About the book – But Santa Came Late

‘but Santa came late’ has been published by Goyal Publishers under the banner of Pigeon Books during the Book Fair in Delhi early this year. The book also participated in the ‘18th Minsk International Book Fair’, Belarus, 9-13th Feb 2011. Pankaj has tried to keep the language easy and simple to understand. The novel focuses mainly on the life-style of today’s teenager and how a simple mistake can lead to disasters. But that’s not all – it also takes the reader on the joyride alongwith the protagonist when he makes his comeback in a heroic and courageous way.

Pankaj has been able to touch all the emotions fantastically that a person goes through across life.

Speaking about his book, Pankaj Pathak, the author of ‘but Santa came late’ says, “I never wanted to write a love story, instead I wanted to write a life-story which I guess I have been able to. Though the book has all the elements of fun, adventure, fantasy and emotion, I have also tried to build a ‘message’ for readers, something which they can take home and remember for life. It took me 25 years to build this story and another 2 years to write and get published.”

The book is now available at all major book stores across India and is priced at Rs. 99/-.

The book is also available at online book store like Flipkart.

CORDENONS COLLABORATIVE CALENDAR 2011 ANNOUNCED BY SONA COMMERCIAL with the theme - ’Indian Letterforms in 3D’

New Delhi 14 Jan 2011: – India’s premier paper merchant SONA Commercial (SCPL) has announced to launch CORDENONS COLLABORATIVE CALENDAR 2011 on 20th January 2011 in New Delhi with the theme - ‘Indian Letterforms in 3D’.

The ‘Indian Letterforms in 3D’ is first of its kind workshop conducted, which is aimed towards exploring a new aspect of Indian letterform design and derivation. The calendar work shop has been done by “Akshraya, the letter conscious people”, a Mumbai based NGO and Sona team.

“This is the first time in India that a calendar has been devoted to Indian scripts” says Raju Suneja, Managing Director of Sona Commercial. SONA Commercial (SCPL) has been in the business of paper trading for over 4 decades and has got national coverage with 7 offices covering the country.

Sona also conducted a workshop in association with “Aksharaya” to expand – promote ‘letter’ as a concept and its form. No workshop and camp has been devoted to Indian scripts which have seen the participation of students, artists and professionals from Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai.

Sona launches theme calendars every year. In the year 2007, it started the concept of Cordenons Collaborative Calendar. “In 2007, the theme was typography, 2008 was-GREEN WAVE, 2009 was – AN IDEA WHOS TIME HAS COME. In 2009, we had sold these designs in canvas form and had raised some fund and that fund was donated to NDTV GREENATHONE” states Anup Verma Head Sales and Marketing of Sona Commercial.

The launch will be studded by Anmol Vellani, Raghu Rai, Rohit Chawala and the likes. Corporates from Ogilvy, JWT, Leo Burnett, BPTP, DLF and many others will also grace the occasion.

About Sona Commercial (SCPL)

SONA Commercial (SCPL) has been in the business of paper trading for over 4 decades. In 2004, it started paper merchanting with GRUPPO CORDENONS SpA, ITALY. CORDENONS is one of the leading fine paper brand in the world.

Cordenons product basket comprises high innovative graphic paper like Texture, Metallic, & color. The usage varies from the normal text & cover to luxury packaging. Cordenons products are endorsed by leading lifestyle brands across the globe.

SCPL has a national coverage; head quartered in New Delhi, have 7 offices covering the country. SCPL’s philosophy is to add value to the customer through its basket of Environmental friendly papers.

Indiscriminate felling of trees … is what is understood when we see or uses paper. Therefore; as a merchant we decided on communicating and voicing our concern. The first step towards this was the CORDENONS COLLABORATIVE CALENDAR 2009. The theme was ‘GREENWAVE’. We collaborated with 12 designers across the country. A theme, towards the well being of the society, is being attached with calendar every year and each page of the calendar is being dedicated to one design studio and they work under that frame. We asked the designers to work on a print communication addressing their idea of a concern for the environment.

What was achieved is something that was beyond our expectation and this became most sought after communication this year also. Collaborating with 12 creative minds; what we have is a diverse calendar with a serious message every month.

The overwhelming response on our last year endeavor, prompted us to bring out another addition of Collaborative calendar, and we call it Cordenons Collaborative Calendar 2010. This Year the theme is “AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME… “.

Different designers have contributed their bit on social as well as environmental issues and a strong message has been floated to the society to save our mother earth and humanity.

As SCPL; our focus is on building and associating with brands that conform to environment standards. We believe that in this manner … we would truly be adding value … and our way to say … WE CARE.

New Delhi, May 18, 2010, Can services be a driver of sustained growth, job creation and poverty reduction? This was the question that was pondered upon at the book launch of ‘The Service Revolution in South Asia’, by Mr. Ejaz Ghani, Economic Advisor, South Asia PREM, The World Bank. Speaking at the book launch function, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Bank, here today, Mr. Ejaz Ghani, countered the conventional wisdom that industrialisation is the only route to rapid economic development. He said, growth in South Asia has been led by services and the labour productivity in this sector has been more than in the industry. In India the productivity growth in service sector matches the labour productivity growth in the manufacturing sector in China, he added.

According to Mr. Ghani, services-led growth has been effective in reducing poverty in South Asia and felt that education, telecommunication and connectivity are the keys to ignite and sustain a service-led growth.

However, he was also of the view that South Asian countries cannot ignore manufacturing sector. He said South Asia would need a hybrid model of economic development, which should neither aim to substitute services for industrial job creation, nor blindly follow the East Asian model of manufacturing led growth.

Leading the panel discussions, Dr. Shankar Acharya, Former Chief Economic Advisor, Government of India and Member, Board of Governors & Honorary Professor, ICRIER raised the issue of shortage of skilled manpower in the services sector in India. He said, addressing the skills shortage would be one of the major challenges for the services industry in India. Concurring with Dr. Acharya, Mr. Ameet Nivsarkar, Vice president, Nasscom gave the instances of huge amounts of investment by IT majors like Infosys and TCS for skills development in the country.

Commercial Printing

US industry forecasts for 2014 & 2019

US revenues to reach 78 billion in 2014
Revenue for the US commercial printing industry, which includes pre-press and printing services on a job order basis, is expected to increase 2.1 percent per year to $78 billion in 2014. Growth of commercial printing revenue will be driven by ongoing technological improvements in the speed, quality and cost of printing. Increasing implementation of variable-data printing will also boost advances. Gains will be aided by a cyclical rebound in advertising expenditures, and increased outsourcing by newspaper publishers. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=135242&rt=Commercial-Printing.html )

Further growth will be restrained by the fact that most commercial printing applications compete with electronic alternatives available on personal computers and other devices. Gains in commercial printing revenue will also be slowed by competition from improving desk-top technology that enables the production of printed items such as stationary, forms and business cards from in-house resources.

Digital printing to achieve biggest gains in demand
In 2009, lithographic printing accounted for the largest percentage of commercial printing revenue, but this share is declining. Lithographic printing, the most common version of which is offset printing, is used in a wide variety of applications due to its consistent image quality and relatively low operating cost, particularly for medium-to-long print runs. However, digital printing, which represented the second largest share of commercial printing revenue in 2009, is expected to achieve the biggest gains through 2014. Advances will result from its lower cost, quick turnaround and ease of customization for shorter print runs. Digital technology is a game-changer in many printing applications — such as direct mail and book publishing — as it accommodates variable-data printing, which allows for the creation of individualized products, and print-on-demand, which allows customers to shrink inventories. The digital printing process continues to benefit from advances in speed of operation, image quality and product size range. Other printing processes include flexography and gravure printing, and others such as letterpress, engraving, intaglio and thermography.

Advertising to retain leading position In 2009, advertising (e.g., direct mail, indoor and outdoor displays, preprinted newspaper inserts, and other products) was the largest commercial printing application. Through 2014, commercially printed advertising is projected to achieve a high growth rate, aided by the cyclical recovery of total advertising expenditures from a low 2009 base. Additionally, demand for direct mail and other commercially printed advertising will be boosted by greater opportunities for customization using variable-data printing and other innovations.

Other commercial printing applications forecast to achieve above-average gains through 2014 are periodical printing, label and wrapper printing, and garment and fabric printing. Despite a downtrend in circulation of printed periodicals, commercial printers have an opportunity to gain business from publishers who decide to outsource printing rather than tie up capital in printing equipment. Gains in revenue from label and wrapper printing, and garment and fabric printing benefit from the fact that neither application faces serious competition from electronic alternatives.
