Co-organised by <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/dr-jyotsna-suri/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Dr. Jyotsna Suri">Dr. Jyotsna Suri</a>, Chairperson &amp; Managing Director of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group the cup was held as a tribute to late Shri Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. Delhi’s cold afternoon began with an exhibition match between The Lalit Team &amp; The Pataudi team, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The game which was further enthused by exciting spectators saw a riveting Polo match between Jindal Trident &amp; Bhopal Pataudi also ended in a 4-4 draw.<br />
The occasion was graced by the Pataudi family Soha Ali Khan, Saba Khan also <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/kareena-kapoor/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Kareena Kapoor">Kareena Kapoor</a>. The prizes were given away by the new Nawab of Pataudi – Saif Ali Khan. In the memory of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, 61st cavalry paid tribute to the legend.</p>

<p>Kolkata, November 1, 2011: <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/sinclairs/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Sinclairs">Sinclairs</a> <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/hotels/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Hotels">Hotels</a> Limited has acquired majority ownership in Savannah <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/hotels/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Hotels">Hotels</a> Private Limited which owns Savannah Sarovar Premiere, an upscale business <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/hotel/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with hotel">hotel</a> in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The 104 room <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/hotel/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with hotel">hotel</a> has two restaurants, conference and banqueting facilities, a roof top swimming pool and a fully equipped health club. Savannah Sarovar Premiere is the preferred choice of leading IT companies and corporate houses in Bengaluru.</p>
<p>Subsequent to the acquisition of majority stake in the company, two new directors representing Sinclairs and three independent directors have been inducted into the board of Savannah Hotels Pvt. Ltd.</p>
<p>The acquisition is in line with Sinclairs’ strategy to grow through strategic acquisitions as well as greenfield projects. Also, buying this city property will considerably enrich the company’s topline. Sinclairs presently owns and operates five properties in Siliguri, Darjeeling, Dooars, Port Blair and Ooty. It is also developing three additional hotels which include a 46 room luxury resort in Kalimpong, a club and banquet complex with a 20 room hotel in Burdwan and a 106 room premier business hotel in Rajarhat, Kolkata. Construction at the Kalimpong and Burdwan hotel sites is in advanced stages and both should be commissioned in 2012. Land acquisition and pre-development work on the Kolkata city hotel project is complete and construction is expected to start shortly.</p>
<p>Sinclairs is also in active discussions with leading real estate companies to develop top of the market residential condominiums and organized retail to complement its established and highly visible operational hotel as part of its overall plan for a mixed use city center in the rapidly growing city of Siliguri. Relevant government approvals and sanctions for the additional development on land owned by Sinclairs alongside the existing hotel are already in place.</p>
<p>The Bengaluru hotel is a strategic fit with the existing Sinclairs resort property at Ooty, which has undergone a full scale renovation, refurbishment and modernization over the last 12 months and reopens shortly to welcome guests to a new world of comfort and luxury. Sinclairs’ arrival in Bengaluru is a prelude to the company acquiring or developing additional properties in south India, much like the company’s approach in eastern India which has been under implementation over the last three years.</p>
<p>On completion of the Bengaluru acquisition and the current development projects, Sinclairs’ total room inventory will increase to over 600 rooms. The company remains focused on providing domestic and international leisure and business travelers a product that is comfortable and reliable.</p>
<p>Significantly, Sinclairs remains debt free even after the Savannah acquisition. The company is therefore very well positioned to use its profitable operations and unleveraged balance sheet to finance current projects and future acquisitions.</p>

The funds will be used to build operations and marketing teams and for product development.</p>
<p>Olacabs.com is India’s first car rental and cab services aggregator. Founded and launched in December 2010 by by 2 IIT Bombay graduates, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati, the portal currently offers full day, half day local rentals as well as outstation hires from Mumbai. Olacabs.com collaborates with private taxi owners and brings them onto an <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/online/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with online">online</a> platform for efficient distribution.</p>
<p>Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder and CEO said,<em> “We are very excited in bringing such amazing and premier investors on board who have shown a lot of interest and confidence in our business. Both Rehan and Anupam have built huge online consumer businesses and their advice and mentoring will help us grow the company to the next level.”</em></p>
<p>Commenting on the investment, Rehan Yar Khan, who has a portfolio of more than 10 startup investments in India said, <em>“While travel sites have organized the airline space and others have brought railways and busses on a single platform, there is a tremendous customer need for a one stop shop for booking cabs for travel within the city and when visiting other cities. <p>The recent world wide travel advisory issued by the US Government, socio-political upheaval in the region and history of  terrorist attacks on sporting events  (attack on the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan in 2008, blast during IPL III in Bangalore and attack on Thai nationals before Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi), have intensified the ongoing debate around the security of forthcoming  2011 World Cup Cricket  to be held in Indian sub-continent (India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) from 19 Feb to 02 Apr 2011.</p>
<p>Terrorists target people and events that make news. As cricket , cricket franchisee owners and players are high profile  targets, terrorist groups may plan sabotage/destruction to jeopardise the world cup and create embarrassment for India.  While security at the venue itself may be adequate, terrorists may plan strikes in the vicinity of venues.</p>

<div style="text-align: left;">Under the agreement Langham will launch two of its hotel brands &#8211; Langham Place and Eaton Smart &#8211; in the hill city of Lavasa.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">The properties which will open in 2013 will form part of the second phase in the, walkable city of Mugaon. The development’s key focus will be on R&amp;D centres, tourism and corporate and educational campuses.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><strong>Brett Butcher, Chief Executive Officer of Langham Hospitality Group</strong> who was in India to sign the agreement, said: <em>“India is one of the most exciting hospitality frontiers in the world today. The next process will be to supply each village-head with a solar-powered receiver that can stay for all time on and be used as a tsunami alarm tool.</p>

<p>A Scots cyclist is attempting to visit all 72 countries competing in the <a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/commonwealth-games/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Commonwealth Games">Commonwealth Games</a> before returning to new host city, Glasgow, in 2014.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.indiaprline.com/tag/sean-newall/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Sean Newall">Sean Newall</a>, 27, from Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, cycled from Glasgow to India to attend the closing ceremony of the 2010 Games in Delhi.</p>
<p>It was the first stage of a 32,000 Kilometer round-the-world bike ride.</p>
<p>Mr Newall is using the expedition &#8211; and three others &#8211; to raise cash for the United Nations children&#8217;s fund, Unicef.</p>
<p>The first challenge, which Mr Newall has named World Cycle, involves a 32,000 Kilometer round-the-world bike ride, taking in 13 Commonwealth countries.</p>
<p>He set off from Glasgow&#8217;s George Square on 23 July and reached Delhi in time for the closing ceremony completing a distance of 8500 kilometers through 12 countries. He said, &#8220;I&#8217;ve been through Scotland, England, Holland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan and then <strong>India</strong>.</p>
<p>On Sunday 31 of October he is inviting residents of Kolkata to join him for 8km. Mr. Newall has already had many people from smaller villages and towns join him in India. But it is now the chance of the big cities to take centre stage and really show how great a country India really is.</p>
<p>Sean explained, “This is a unique opportunity to be part of a world wide event that has already had people from around the world join. Not only will you be part of the team but you will represent India.”</p>
<p>The meeting point is at Elliot Park, at the Indira Gandhi Statue at 13:00. All that is required is that you have a bicycle and come along for an 8km cycle. When it is completed all of those that join will be part of the world wide team.</p>
<p>From here he will continue on his quest to cycle the commonwealth by heading off to Bangladesh, before returning to India to head south toward Chennai for another 8km event on the 21st of November. This will conclude his visit to India.</p>
<p>“My main concern is that only a few will join for 8km compared with the interest shown from other commonwealth countries such as Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand. If only a few join, this would not be a fair representation of a country that has shown me overwhelming hospitality. Thousands will have to join to get close to how great India has been!”<br />
The cyclist aims to return home on 23 May 2011, having visited countries in Europe, Oceania, Asia and North and Central America all by bicycle.</p>
