a new path-breaking book authored by Ankit Fadia, the world renowned Ethical Hacker & Computer Security expert launched in Hyderabad today

“China currently employs 40,000+ people to block content on the Internet.
Hope India is not going to go the China way”: Ankit Fadia

Hyderabad, January 31, 2012: Worried about the Indian government’s threat to block your favorite websites? Tired of your college, office & government blocking everything cool & fun on the Internet? Deprived of accessing Stock Websites, Facebook and You Tube Videos at work? Slow download speeds, download limits, no access to cricket scores & no chatting with friends, making Jack a dull boy? Cheer up as ANKIT FADIA’s latest book “How to Unblock Everything on the Internet” will show how to unblock just about everything on the Internet.

Published by Vikas Publishing House, the book is launched in Hyderabad today. After the launch Mr. Ankit Fadia gave a live demonstration on how to unblock websites, blogs, applications and content on the Internet. The stylishly packaged book shows people how to unblock everything on the Internet. It is priced at INR 150/- is now available at all bookstores across India and even before its official release has already sold more than 2000 copies online!

Freedom of speech and expression is the mortar that cements the bricks of democracy. Completely blocking websites on the Internet by the government is a step away from democracy. However, freedom of speech does not extend to the extreme scenario where it is okay for a miscreant to go into a crowded theater and shout ‘FIRE’! Such an act can harm or hurt the peace and wellbeing of others in the society. Hence it is important for the government and online platforms to join hands to efficiently work together to block the publishing of inflammatory content on the Internet.

However, pre-screening of Internet content or putting the complete liability, responsibility and blame on platforms is not very reasonable. After all, could you sue a mobile phone operator or the neighborhood post office if somebody were to send an obscene or offensive message using their communication medium? You can prosecute the individual who sent the message and not the communication medium that was used.

Speaking on the launch of his new book Ankit Fadia said “Banning or blocking websites on the Internet completely is not the answer and is a step away from democracy and could silence free speech all together. We need to find a middle ground which allows a more efficient mechanism to remove offensive content from the Internet without blocking access to websites completely. China currently employs 40,000+ people to block content on the Internet. Hope India is not going to go the China way”.

Written in an easy-to-understand do-it-yourself manner that just about everybody (both non-technical people and technical people) can understand, this book will teach you simple things you can do to unblock access to blocked stuff on the Internet including social networks (Facebook, Twitter), video streaming websites (YouTube, MetaCafe), Sports/Cricket websites, chat, career sites and just about everything else. If you are studying in a college, working for a company or travelling to a country that has blocked access to everything cool & fun on the Internet (like Facebook, YouTube, Chat and others), making your life miserably boring, this book is sure to come to your rescue. It contains over 50 different chapters and provides step by step processes that absolutely anybody can follow and is ably supported by screen shots as well.

The book “How to unblock everything on the net” will find a widespread audience not only in India but also amongst residents and visitors to countries like China and the Middle East (Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya and others) where censorship is rampant and repressive.

Recipient of the prestigious National Telecom Awards 2011, for “Global Ambassador for Cyber Security” from Sachin Pilot (Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology) a, Ankit Fadia is a globally respected voice on cyber terrorism. Ankit Fadia was also recently selected by the World Economic Forum as a Global Shaper for his achievements at such a young age.

He further added “It is about time that governments start looking at platforms like social media and search as assets and not as enemies. After the Devastating Earthquake in Japan in 2011, Google immediately launched a People Finder website which allowed people to upload pictures & post information about missing people & share it with others and actually managed to help people locate their missing loved ones. The Haiti Earthquake generated more than 17 million tweets alone creating much needed global awareness, aid and help from all corners of the globe in a matter of a few hours. Would you really want to block such lifesaving mediums?”.

Commenting on the launch of the book, Mr. Piyush Chawla, Director, Vikas Publishing Pvt. Ltd. The publisher of the book said “Kudos to Ankit for showing the way to having unrestricted access to legal content on the Internet. A TRUE-VALUE book!”

About Ankit Fadia: At 26 years of age, Ankit Fadia is widely recognized as a Computer Security Expert and Cyber Terrorism guru. He has written 14 bestselling books, delivered more than 1000 talks in 25 countries, received 45 awards, has trained more than 20,000 people in India & China, offers certification courses on Ethical Hacking, hosts his own MTV show called What the Hack!, runs his own consulting company and also went to Stanford University. His work has touched & influenced the cyber lives of millions of individuals and organizations worldwide. He was recently chosen as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum.

NOIDA, UP, India – December, 14, 2011. Managing Director of Wildnet Technologies, Nitin Agarwal, has announced that under the newly launched “Christmas Bonanza” program, his company will be offering substantial discounts to existing and new customers opting for SEO India services during Christmas holidays.

These cost effective packages include a range of SEO services such as detailed keyword search provided by SEO India, SEO copy writing, dynamic search engine optimization, ongoing optimization and site navigation & optimization and directory submission services, etc.

Mr. Agarwal added, “ Christmas Bonanza SEO discounts have been introduced so that our clients’ website rankings should peak at just the right time to catch the shopping wave during the Christmas holidays. It is the right time to get your website optimized to make it noticeable by your targeted customers.”

SEO India is essential to enhance identity of your online business and to make it noticeable by your targeted audience. A well designed website if not optimized properly may get tossed in unnoticeable search engine result pages. SEO professionals utilize both on page and off page optimization methods to achieve better search engine rankings for a website over all major search engines.

On-page optimization refers to tools that work with your website to make it search engine friendly such as keywords & niche research, meta tags, competitor analysis, domain name selection, page design & structure and content optimization. While, off- page optimization is a combination of tools used outside your website such as creation of back links through social media such as directories, blog comments, forum posts etc. On page optimization focuses on making your website search engine friendly while off page optimization tools focus upon enhancing significance of your website for other websites, users and search engines.

Mr. Nitin Agarwal said, “Christmas holidays is a crucial time for every business to increase its revenues. Our innovative SEO packages offer complete on-page and off-page search engine optimization plus extensive online reputation management techniques to bring better rankings and higher revenues for our clients’ businesses through search engine marketing.”

Study investigates every possible one-character typo of Facebook, Google, Twitter, Microsoft, Apple and Sophos homepage

MUMBAI / BANGALORE, India – December 19, 2011

IT security and control firm,Sophos,is cautioning computer users to be careful while typing the URLs, following the results of a Sophos study into the scale of ‘Typosquatting’.

Typosquatters register misspellings of popular websites in the hope that they will be able to make money out of traffic from unintentional typing mistakes made by internet surfers. Sophos looked at typosquatting targeting its own website and those of Facebook, Google, Twitter, Microsoft and Apple. The study looked for registered websites for every single one letter typo of the company name: one letter omitted (eg Sopos), one letter mistyped (eg Sphos), or one letter added (Ssophos).

The study revealed that there is a significant typosquatting ecosystem around high-profile, often-typed domain names. A huge 86% of the possible one letter misspellings of the Apple homepage led to typosquatting sites.

The highest proportion of the squatting sites – 15% – led to advertising sites. Cybercriminals will register misspelled sites to make advertising revenue every time someone mistypes the name of a popular site. 12% were found to be IT & hosting pages – suggesting that they have been registered with the intention of being held onto and sold at a profit, which is also known as ‘domain parking’. Of the 14,495 misspelled URLs looked at in the study, 738 (5.1%) were categorized by Sophos as cybercrime or adult. The former should always be blocked; the latter should be blocked at least in the workplace or around children.

“It’s so easy to mistype a URL, and it’s inevitable that from time to time you will end up on an unintended website. In the worst cases, careless typing can lead you to a criminal website designed to steal your identity or phish your credentials,” said Graham Cluley, Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos. “A good idea is to bookmark your favorite websites rather than rely upon your fingers working correctly.”

Bangalore, India | December 3rd, 2011; AliveNow, one of India’s leading social media companies, has been conferred with the prestigious NASSCOM EMERGE 50 League of 10 award. Adhvith Dhuddu, the founder and CEO of AliveNow accepted this award in the recent NASSCOM Product Conclave at the award ceremony which recognized the top 10 companies from the NASSCOM EMERGE 50 companies. Adhvith received the award from MindTree CEO, Krishnakumar Natarajan, NIIT Group Chairman and co-founder Rajendra Pawar and Managing Director of Tally, Mr. Bharat Goenka. It was truly a proud moment for the young company that just turned 2 years old a few months ago. Earlier in the year, AliveNow was also shortlisted by Businessworld Magazine as one of India’s 25 hottest young start ups for 2011.

The league of 10 companies were chosen after a lengthy and arduous process of evaluation and scrutiny. In the recently held Product Conclave, NASSCOM distributed its “Group of Emergents” handout where it shared more details regarding the process.
Adhvith Dhuddu further shared, “We are overwhelmed to receive this prestigious League of 10 award from NASSCOM. I truly thank NASSCOM for recognizing and encouraging young and ambitious startups like ours and this only reinforces our belief in what we do. This is truly a team award and in a start up every single person’s contribution goes a long way, and this is a testament to the team’s hard work over the last 2 years. We also like to thank all of our clients and brands who we have worked with, and specifically thank them for believing in a young company like ours.”

Net profit up 71.1 %, Revenues up 52.6 %

New Delhi, 14th November, 2011: Net4 India, a leading Network and Application Services Provider, today announced the consolidated financial results for the 2nd quarter and half year ended September 30, 2011. The Company has reported a rise of 71.2 % (YoY) in its H1 consolidated net profit after tax. Its consolidated net profit increased to Rs 15.03 crore against Rs 8.78 crore in the corresponding 1st Half in the last fiscal year. EPS increased by 61 % from Rs. 4.64 per share to Rs. 7.49 per share for the 1st Half of the current financial year.

The consolidated revenues of the company for H1 has also climbed up by 52.6 % to Rs 192.9 crore. It had registered total revenues of Rs 126.4 crores in the corresponding half year in the last financial year.

The second quarter numbers have also seen a big jump, with consolidated PAT for Q2 increasing to Rs. 9.5 cr from Rs. 5.8cr, an increase of 65.1% YoY. Revenues for the quarter increased by 50.9% on a YoY basis, from Rs.77.4 crore in Q2 FY10/11 to Rs 116.7 crore in the quarter ended 30th September 2011.

Commenting on the performance, Mr. Jasjit Sawhney, CMD, Net4 India said, “Revenue growth is robust across all our service offerings. We are delighted with the company’s ongoing growth momentum and our recent acquisition has only added to it. Cloud, SaaS and Private Cloud & Virtualization solutions have been big kickers in our growth trajectory in the last 6 months. Our Web Services business growth has also seen excellent traction, adding over 40,000 customers in the last quarter alone.

We believe there is considerable latent growth potential in the Indian market that we are ideally positioned to tap into it.
MUMBAI / BANGALORE, India – October 21, 2011

IT security and data protection firm, Sophos, is warning of a malicious email attack, one of the first to capitalize on the death of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The scam poses as pictures of Gaddafi’s body, tricking users into believing the email comes from the AFP news agency and has been forwarded by a fellow internet user. In reality, opening the attached file on a Windows computer puts PCs at risk of malware infection.

A typical message is:

Subject: “Fw: AFP Photo News: Bloody Photos: Libya dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s Death”

Message body:

“Libya dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s Death

Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the world, has been killed, the country’s rebel government claimed Oct. 20. The flamboyant tyrant who terrorized his country and much of the world during his 42 years of despotic rule was cornered by insurgents in the town of Sirte, where Gadhafi had been born and a stronghold of his supporters.”

“The death of Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi has almost inevitably resulted in cybercriminals taking advantage of the news story, and the general public’s seeming interest in viewing ghoulish photos and videos of his last moments,” said Graham Cluley, Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos. ”As unlikely as the legitimacy of these emails may seem – in this case, the latest photos being forwarded to you in an email attachment – the news is often just too interesting for people to ignore. Internet users need to be sensible when it comes to a top news story, and not throw their security suspicions regarding links and unsolicited attachments out the window, in search of the latest revelations or shocking images.”

Business, among the other domains is in a state of metamorphosis, owing to the role of social media marketing. Advit Sahdev launches his second eBook on social media marketing with a special focus on marketing objectives. It is a top selling title and has made it to the list of top 10 books and eBook.

MUMBAI / BANGALORE, India – September 6, 2011

IT security and data protection firm, Sophos, has made a video demonstrating how easy it is to hijack a Facebook ‘Page’, due to a loop hole in the social network’s settings.

Facebook Pages are an important part of many business’s marketing activities. Brands such as Coca-Cola, Victoria’s Secret and Starbucks have millions of Facebook fans signed-up to their Pages. Anyone can create a Facebook Page, and popular Pages will likely require a number of additional co-administrators to help run it.

While the onus is on Facebook Page creators to be careful about who they grant admin access to, it is possible for newly appointed administrators to hijack the Page, removing the original creator’s admin rights – effectively taking permanent control of the Page.

Facebook’s own help pages state that “the original creator of the Page may never be removed by other Page admins”, however a video from Sophos proves that this is not the case:

“There are two issues here. Even if a trusted friend or colleague is working as an administrator on a Facebook Page, it is possible that their account may be compromised, giving the bad guys a chance to hijack the Facebook Page you’ve created,” said Graham Cluley, Senior Technology Consultant atSophos. “The other possibility is that the Page founder grants a stranger admin rights to the Page. While this might not sound like the best idea, there are several services, such as Fiverr, where you can find plenty of people offering to help you to maximize the success of your Facebook Page.”

“If you give a cut-price ‘social media expert’ admin rights to your Facebook Page, you really only have yourself to blame if you’re ousted,” continued Cluley. ”However, the question is – why can’t Facebook do what its help pages say it will do – either block attempts to remove the original admin,

or send a request to the original admin asking if they agree to be removed from their administrator role. That would surely help prevent hijacks like this taking place.”
