1 FEBRUARY 2012 – Kivar Environ, an environmental services organisation contracted by the Puducherry state government in India to implement an Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Puducherry city, has chosen specialist document imaging software from Advanced Business & Healthcare Solutions India (Advanced). The software has already cut the time taken to process attendance from two days to just a few hours.

The document imaging software, which went live in October 2011, is being used to accurately record and report on the working hours of the community workers handling waste collection for Kivar.
Kivar had previously been using a mobile-based, manually-intensive application to record the attendance of over a thousand community workers. At the start of each shift, the community workers who were working the shift, would have their attendance recorded, in pencil, on a tick sheet. The data on this tick sheet would then be entered into the attendance tracking system. This proved very time-consuming.

Mr Lakshmi Prasad, the Head-IT of Kivar says, “We recognised the need for an attendance system that could automate the collection of data from the attendance sheets, improving both efficiency and accuracy. We were introduced to Advanced and its electronic document imaging solution which uses the latest optical mark recognition technology.”

Mr Prasad continues, “Thanks to the Advanced system, we have reduced the time taken to capture attendance information from a couple of days to just a few hours. The capture of attendance data is now almost 100% accurate, and provides a better interface to monitor and track community worker attendance across various zones in Puducherry.”

Advanced’s document imaging solution, which uses UK-based Version One’s technology, automatically captures attendance information from the tick sheets. Special attendance sheets with barcodes containing the details pertaining to the shift, sub-zone, the sub-zone supervisor and community workers’ names and IDs are printed daily. At the end of each shift, these sheets are scanned back at the office where the optical mark recognition (OMR) technology captures the ticks and converts these ticks into attendance data.

The barcode data is automatically read and uploaded to the central server and at the same time, the tick sheets are electronically archived. Daily attendance reports and data for management dashboards are now available in the central repository from where they can be quickly, easily and securely retrieved over the web.

Advanced re-seller, WoodApple UnikSolutionz, which is based out of Bangalore, worked closely with Advanced to deliver the solution. WoodApple is currently undertaking portal development that will enable Kivar’s vendors to securely access attendance information over the internet.

Kivar is currently looking at rolling-out the document imaging solution to other cities.

Mumbai, December 22, 2011: Thinksoft Global Services Limited (Thinksoft), a specialist Financial Software Testing Company, today announced that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has chosen it to deliver a comprehensive end-to-end User Acceptance Testing with full project management responsibility including Test Strategy, Test Planning and Test Execution.

The requirements of RBI in terms of the processes and functionalities that are to be designed and realized in its CBS ranks among the most complex among Central Banks globally covering public debt, collections and payments of Central and State Governments including Union Territories apart from being a banker to banks and the lender of last resort.

This is the second successful year of the “SG GSC India Talent Scholarship‟ program. This year it received around 150 applications from the top institutes in India out of which the top ten deserving students received the scholarship. SG GSC leadership team selected the scholarship recipients after face to face interview and after evaluating various factors like academic performance, need, impact and the potential recipient ambitions.
The chosen students represent Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad; Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore.

The unique element of this program is its unqualified and unconditional objective of grooming future leaders and to this end, its mentorship program that assigns each student to an individual senior manager in the company.
The mentors help the students to navigate through their course with proper career counselling and support given in multiple ways via trainings like “Campus to Corporate‟, where they are career counselled and improve their people and interview skills.

The TCS Nagpur Campus will be located on a 54-acre property in the Mihan SEZ on the outskirts of the city. New York, December 13, 2011: The Infosys USA Foundation expanded its challenge grant to the New York Academy of Sciences Afterschool STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Mentoring Program to include Citizen Schools in New Jersey. The Infosys USA Foundation has provided $380,000 in cumulative grants to give more students the opportunity to improve their science and math skills.

The partnership between the Infosys USA Foundation and the Academy supports the Academy’s K-12 Science Education Initiative that provides academic mentoring by young scientists to underserved students. The program’s goal is to ensure that students have an opportunity to explore science, math and technology in ways that will encourage higher achievement in the classroom and in testing outcomes.

“Infosys is committed to providing opportunities for students to improve their math and science skills,” said Ashok Vemuri, Head of Americas, Global Head, Financial Services & Insurance and Board Member of Infosys. “The Academy offers a valuable STEM education program that encourages learning in a fun environment. Together, these mentors provided more than 3,120 hours of high quality, educational activities, inspiring the city’s most underserved children and encouraging confidence to pursue their talents in science and math.

Through additional funding support from the Infosys USA Foundation, the Academy aims to recruit, train and support 30 new mentors in the 2011-2012 school year for the New Jersey-based science education program. The program will provide 180 hours of hands-on activities for 450 students in the fourth through eighth grades in an afterschool setting, as well as extend Academy membership to at least 300 New Jersey teachers.

With smart mobile phones and tablets gaining in popularity, global outsourcing of software development is likely to see game-changing shifts. A distributed workforce is becoming the norm for businesses. Additionally, there is a surge in mobility adoption and mobility solutions taking the software industry by storm. A Forrester report of Feb 28, 2011 (Mobile App Internet Recasts the Software and Services Landscape) forecasts app sales for smart phones growing from $1.9 billion in 2010 to $29.4 billion by 2015. In the same period, app sales for tablets will rise from $300 million to $8.1 billion.
The software provider landscape will see a polarization between niche specialists and large generalists. Clients will allocate 70% of their budgets to generalists and 30% to specialists.

Deal sizes will shrink, with clients awarding smaller contracts to de-risk execution and stay in control. An IDC survey of global IT-BPO deals already shows the trend with deal value between Q2 2010 and Q2 2011 shrinking by 57 % and number of deals shrinking by 36%.

Another game changer, points out Sanjay, will be an emphasis by clients to have CEOs and CFOs making O&O (Off-shoring and Outsourcing) decisions, and a stricter scrutiny of Return on Investment on technology initiatives. For the service providers, this implies selling to the business rather than just providing technology and need to invest in consultancy skills as well as client-facing staff who understand the client’s business. The customer will look at outcomes rather than inputs and the onus will lie increasingly on service providers on capacity planning and productivity gains.
