Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, April 27, 2011 – Dürr is building the prototype of the Green Paint Shop for BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) in Shenyang, China. All of the technological innovations that Dürr has to offer in terms of environmentally friendly, sustainable automotive painting will be used in this paint shop.

The customer has clear visions for its paint shop in Shenyang: the goal is to create nothing short of the world’s most environmentally friendly plant. The general contractor Dürr, with its diverse approaches to resource-saving painting, is the ideal partner for this.

RoDip M rotational dip coating is used in the PT/ED area. The rotational movement of the car bodies thus allows inclined sections at the entrance and exit of the dip tank to be eliminated. This fact leads not only to a significant savings of space, but also to a reduced consumption of energy and chemicals due to smaller bath volumes.

Other technical features that highlight this “green” attribute are the fully automatic IPP (Integrated Paint Process), which eliminates the need for primer and thus a drying phase as well. The spray booths are equipped with EcoDryScrubber technology, the innovative dry separation method from Dürr which requires no water or chemicals. In this way air recirculation allows a 60% savings in energy. The saturated binding material – a hazardous waste in conventional processes – can be re-used without any further treatment. Dürr’s dry separation systems are already in use or under construction in 40 paint lines on four continents.

Paint will be applied with 32 type EcoRP E033 and EcoRP L133 painting robots from Dürr. These are equipped with the latest generation of atomizer, the EcoBell3, which is characterized by its significantly higher atomizer performance. Due to the EcoBell3′s compact design, both exterior and interior painting can be done with the same rotating atomizer. In conjunction with the EcoLCC color changer, the EcoBell3 offers a highly efficient and compact, but also easy, application system for all applications. This leads to minimal paint loss during color changes and this process is considerably shortened.

A further measure for protecting the environment, the use of heat wheels for heat recovery from supply and exhaust air. Even the waste heat from the dryers is recovered through a waste heat boiler. The exhaust air stream from the clear coat booth is purified over and above the regulatory requirements before leaving the facility. Through the use of membrane technology in the pretreatment, electro dipping and waste water system, both water consumption and the amount of waste water are reduced.

With its layout philosophy, Dürr creates favorable conditions for this prototype of a green paint shop. The framework constitutes a simple, inexpensive industrial building with no intermediate levels. This concept is supported by multi-functional car body stacks in the form of high-rise storage facilities to ensure an optimum flow of materials.

Along with the environment, this project features another winner: the customer can lay claim to operating the most sustainable “green” paint shop in the world. The specific energy consumption that BMW reaches with this new paint shop sets new standards worldwide, as less than 500 kilowatt hours of energy are needed per painted car body. This is only a third of what was common just ten years ago.

At the same time much emphasis is placed on having a worker-friendly work environment: ergonomic working conditions are just as standard as ease of communication and maintenance. That BMW’s quality standards will in this way be guaranteed goes without saying.

Dürr is a mechanical and plant engineering group that holds leading positions in the world market in its areas of operation. It generates a good 80% of its sales in business with the automotive industry. It furthermore supplies the aircraft, machinery, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries with innovative production and environmental technologies. The Dürr Group operates in the market with three divisions. The Paint and Assembly Systems division supplies production and painting technology, especially for car bodies. Machinery and systems from the Measuring and Process Systems division are used in engine and transmission manufacturing and in final vehicle assembly, among other areas. The third division, Clean Technology Systems, is focused on processes to improve energy efficiency and on exhaust air purification. Dürr has 48 business locations in 21 countries worldwide. The Group achieved sales of € 1.26 billion with approximately 5,900 employees in 2010.

Strata Geosystems India Private Ltd launches StrataWeb

Strata Geosystems India Pvt Ltd has added “StrataWeb” to its range of soil reinforcement products. StrataWeb is a light-weight, expandable, three-dimensional honeycomb-like cellular confinement system, which acts as an erosion control barrier and also as a foundation reinforcement mat for improvement of bearing capacity of weak soils.

StrataWeb when in-filled with compacted soil creates a new composite entity that possesses enhanced mechanical and geotechnical properties. When the soil contained within a geocell is subjected to pressure, it results in high lateral stresses and resistance on the stiff cell walls, thereby decreasing the punching effect, increasing the bearing capacity and a reduced peak settlement. Hoop stress resistance generated by the cell walls increases the shear strength of the confined infill, thus creating a stiff mattress and distributing the load over a wider area. Active earth pressure generated in each individual cell is resisted by an equivalent passive earth pressure generated by the adjoining cells. StrataWeb being textured, it increases the vertical frictional resistance thereby reducing the stress reaching the lower strata.

StrataWeb reinforcement system reduces infill quantities by up to 50% while utilizing locally available inferior quality soil or recycled material as its infill, thereby reducing consumption of natural resources, reduction in carbon footprint, reducing project time, labour and costs. Further it allows fast, all weather installation, easy handling, zero wastage, zero maintenance, etc.

StrataWeb also provides ecological and aesthetic benefits for earth stabilization, by maintaining the greenery and promoting vegetation growth. It is extremely environment-friendly since it does not disintegrate or pollute surroundings. It allows for natural drainage thus preventing the build-up of hydrostatic pressures.

Applications:

Load support for paved roads (National & State Highways), unpaved roads (access roads, service roads, haul roads), railways, etc.

Bearing capacity improvement for soft soils, like, container yards, parking areas, transmission towers, platforms, footpaths, casting yards, etc.

Slope protection, erosion control, channel linings, embankment protection, slope stabilization, etc.

Earth stabilization and retaining walls

Landfills and reservoirs

“StrataWeb adds the fourth dimension of time – longevity – to the conventional three dimensions of length, width and height. It provides a clear value proposition and with be an excellent addition to our existing product range” said Mr. Narendra Dalmia.

India is a strategic market for VINCI

Mumbai, December 6, 2010: India is a strategic market for VINCI. Its democratic tradition and its stable and efficient legal and political system allow us to take the long-term view in developing our businesses there. Moreover, its vigorous economic growth and determination to improve its infrastructure via the Public – Private Partnership model—a model with which we are fully familiar—renders it more attractive

still. Over the past two years, VINCI has forged cooperation agreements with Indian firms enabling it to gain a foothold notably in the nuclear power and road infrastructure markets.

In the nuclear sector

· VINCI Construction Grands Projects, which designs and builds major civil engineering structures and buildings the world over, formed a partnership in March 2010 with HCC (Hindustan Construction Company Ltd.) Engineering and Construction, a leading player in the Indian construction market, to work on highly-targeted infrastructure projects. Within the framework of this partnership, VINCI Construction Grands Projects and HCC have teamed up to bid jointly on the civil engineering for the EPR reactors at the Jaitapur site.

· Nuvia, a subsidiary of Soletanche – Freyssinet specializing in civil and military nuclear installations, is currently investigating the Indian nuclear services industry. In October 2010, Nuvia announced the signature of a cooperation agreement with PL Engineering of India, a subsidiary of the Punj Lloyd group. Ultimately, this partnership is expected to lead to the creation of a joint venture to supply nuclear project engineering and associated operational services.

In road infrastructure

· VINCI and Eurovia, a world leader in transport infrastructure and urban development works, have been working together with India’s Hinduja group since the beginning of 2010. This partnership concerns in particular the development of an activity of road construction on the Indian territory.

· VINCI Concessions, as both investor and industrial operator, and as a partner of choice of public authorities for the development of transport infrastructure projects, has entered a partnership with HCC Concessions. VINCI Concessions and HCC Concessions have already teamed up and are currently responding to invitations to tender for motorway concessions (cf. the NH8 mega project and the NH49 and NH3 motorways). VINCI Concessions is contributing its expertise, within this framework, in the design, financing and maintenance of road and motorway infrastructure, acquired over many years in France and abroad (in particular Germany, Greece, Slovakia, and elsewhere).

Forum recommends Lightweight construction techniques to meet the huge construction demand of 1.4 million homes in Mumbai
~Inaugural discussion articulates the need to create 1.2 billion sq ft of green building space by 2012~
~Expo to showcase the latest & cutting edge global products and best practices in the building and construction space~

Mumbai, India, 30th September, 2010: Zak Group and Saint Gobain Gyproc, in association with a consortium of India’s leading companies in the interior design & construction space, today hosted the inaugural ceremony for the nation’s first integrated building solutions expo on Innovative, Lightweight, Faster and Sustainable Building Construction Technologies, which aims to highlight the multifaceted solutions now available that will add a positive thrust and impetus to nation’s real estate market. The ceremony was presided over by chief guest, Dr. P C Jain, Chairman & MD, Spectral Services Consultants Pvt Ltd and Chairman of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Coupled with knowledge seminars and discussions, the expo will be hosted over the next three days till the 3rd of October 2010 at the Bandra Kurla Complex – Mumbai.

Within the country itself, across Tier I and Tier II markets, the constraints and pressures on existing infrastructure is rising, with demand outpacing supply. According to reports, the market value of real estate under construction in India is approximately $100 billion, of which the residential market comprises of approximately $66 billion, while the commercial market stands at approximately $34 billion. As of today, India has approximately 450 million sq ft of green buildings spaces and two years down the line by 2012 it aims to cross a 1.2 billion mark of green building spaces.

For key markets, such as Mumbai, being an island city surrounded by water on three sides, there are few options left but to expand itself vertically. This presents several challenges as significant level of resources, environmental and safety issues arise. However, new age building solutions offer developers and construction firms the ability to design taller and more reliable structures as the weight on a buildings internal support systems is significantly reduced and balanced out. As an added bonus, such solutions significantly reduce the time period required for completing a project, thereby, having a direct impact in reducing building and labor costs. In relation, new age building methods ensure greater protection and safety for occupants of a particular structure. This is especially true in terms of vastly reducing the adverse impact of fire outbreaks, natural calamities etc.

According to Cushman and Wakefield, Mumbai has an immediate demand of approximately 1.4 million homes, of which the demand for affordable housing is expected to increase by approximately 400,000 units every year. In order to help meet this demand, it is important for developers to implement new building solutions to ensure timely completion of projects, reduction of building cost and public safety.

Mr. Venkat Subramanian, MD, Saint Gobain Gyproc said, “Hosting such an event is beneficial as it offers key solutions to addressing the infrastructure and realty requirements of the nation. Such solutions would help to create more sustainable improved and environmentally friendly urban environments”.

The expo is divided into three components: “Future ready” products and solutions are on display; “Knowledge Sessions” by leading architects, consultants, developers and industry leaders covering topics like acoustics, fire protection, tall building design, project management and sustainable construction technologies and an “Experience Zone” is setup to simulate real life experiences in construction, i.e. over 3000 sq ft area, a G+1 residential area is erected in one structure and hospital and hotel interiors has been created in the other structure.

Some of the highly acclaimed speakers, who will be attending the expo to share their views on innovative and integrated construction, include Mike Cassidy – Vice President – Construction Westcourt, Major General TM Mhaisale – Commander Technical Group, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Ar CN Raghavendra Rao – Partner, CRN Architects, Rahul Jhaveri from Jhaveri & Jhaveri Associates, G Balaji – Head – Construction, Phoenix Mills Ltd etc.
