ABOUT WELLNESS

Given the diverse definition of Wellness it can be daunting to define it in just one context. Most of the ancient wellness concepts have largely focused on the basic needs of an individual within the need hierarchy, namely health, nutrition and lifestyles. In contemporary times, the popular belief is achieving a perfect balance of mind, body and soul, while another school of thought believes that we are not sum of parts but an integrated whole. Either ways, all philosophies of wellness revolve around the harmony between mental, physical and spiritual aspects towards a life filled with health, happiness and fulfilment.

CURRENT SCENARIO

Though Wellness as a concept has been in vogue since ancient times, traditional medicinal and health practices like ayurveda and yoga have embraced the contemporary world to propound the concept of mental and bodily wellness amongst the general populace. With the progress of time, wellness as a concept has taken up a multi-dimensional definition, encompassing the individual’s desire for social acceptance, exclusivity and collective welfare. Chiefly influenced by changes in society and in the lifestyle of individuals, this change has also been accelerated by extraneous factors like globalization and a greater awareness of the need for wellness among individuals.
THE INDUSTRY

The rise in awareness of the wellness concept in India has been largely driven by rising affluence levels. Shifts in the income and consumption patterns of individuals and households have created a large base of retail consumer class backed by significant discretionary spending and awareness of the beneficial effects of wellness. Wellness offerings have also seen increased demand from corporate clients. Wellness players have responded to change by shifting their focus from traditional offerings like curative healthcare and value oriented mass products to new generational offerings like preventive healthcare, luxury products and personalized services.
THE POTENTIAL

Prevalence of these demand drivers in the Indian economy has prompted many organized players to enter the wellness space and introduce multiple products and services. Established players are looking beyond their core propositions and integrating new wellness based services in their operations. Traditional product based companies have forayed into the wellness services space, while old industry conglomerates are now looking at wellness investments with great interest. International companies have trained their sights on capitalizing this opportunity. Players in Allied industries like Hospitals, Hotels, Real Estate and Insurance, which enable/enhance wellness, have begun to integrate wellness offerings into their propositions and create a holistic service offering.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The billion-dollar Indian wellness industry is at crossroads – on one end, the home grown giants are battling the influx of world players over showroom-space & mind-space. On the other, technological break-through and new discoveries are perplexing the consumer with excessive information. This calls for a platform to represent the industry’s current & future trends, offer one-to-one interaction, provide information, and address issues and gear up for a gigantic supply with an equally colossal demand. Wellness India Expo comes in at the right time and place to help all the stake holders achieve a massive untapped potential.
