Delegates from Imperial College London, The Chain of Hope charity and Hinduja Hospital meet to explore new collaboration avenues
Mumbai; February 14, 2012: P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Center, a multispecialty tertiary care hospital in Mumbai has a legacy of 60 years in providing excellence in medical care, pioneering research, advanced academics and magnanimous philanthropy. The hospital is addressed as the “Mayo Clinic of India” where quality, work ethos and values are institutionalized under one umbrella.
The hospital continues to strengthen its core foundations of research, academics and philanthropy by collaborating with centers of excellence across the globe. Since 2002 Hinduja Hospital has done collaborative research in Tuberculosis (TB) with Imperial College London. The next milestone was the meeting with delegates from Imperial College London and The Chain of Hope Charity lead by Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub on Feb 13, 2012 at Hinduja Hospital, followed by a CME Symposium on Cardiac Science.
Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon from Imperial College, restarted UK heart transplantation in 1980 and carried out the first live lobe lung transplant. He continues to operate on children through his charity, The Chain of Hope.
He was accompanied by Dr. Prakash P Punjabi, cardiothoracic surgeon, Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial College London along with his daughter Ms. Lisa Yacoub, UK Programme Coordinator; The Chain of Hope.
Talks between the two institutions took place to explore avenues of collaboration in areas of, philanthropy, research and academics. Prof Sir. Magdi Yacoub and his team were impressed with the synergy in the vision of The Chain of Hope and Hinduja Hospital’s philanthropy activities under Live To Give Hope.
On this occasion, Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub, said, “We have come to Hinduja Hospital to explore avenues of collaborations with them as regards to philanthropy, research, and academics. We are also pleased & impressed with the services rendered by the hospital to the society and find its efforts similar to that of The Chain of Hope. We had a fruitful preliminary discussion and look forward to collaborating with Live To Give Hope soon”.
