Oasis Festival – to host 40th Oasis Festival on 22-26 October 2010. There will be over 80 colleges from different states of the country participating in 67 events, professional shows and games including – music, art, dance, drama, photography, films, debates and literature. Theme of this year’s Oasis is ‘Insomnia’ .

Pilani, 18 October 2010, /IndiaPRLine.com/ 40th edition of Oasis, the annual cultural festival will be held at BITS Pilani on 22-26 October 2010. Participated by over 80 colleges from different states of the country, this year’s Oasis will hold 67 events, professional shows and games. They will include music, art, dance, drama, photography, films, debates and literature. Theme of this year’s Oasis is ‘Insomnia’ .

Started as an annual event in 1971, Oasis has been run since then every year without a break. Over the years, the festival has established its reputation as one of the best college festivals of the country with increasing participation.

Highlights of Oasis 2010 include :

  • Dance workshops by Bollywood choreographers, Bosco Caesar Dance Company
  • Theatre workshop by stage actor turned theater director, Quasar Thakore Padamsee
  • Music show by Vishal Shekhar, the music directing duo of Hindi films who have many films for their credit including Jhankaar Beats, Om Shanti Om, Tara Rum Pum, Salaam Namasthe, Dus, Bluffmaster, Bachna Ae Haseeno etc.
  • Performance by music band, Bhayanak Maut of Mumbai, a eclectic mix of metal, death metal and hardcore
  • Performance by rock band from Cochin, Motherjane, named as Artist of the Decade by the Rock Street Journal.
  • Hasya Kavi Sammelan by film comedian, Ahsaan Qureshi and poet Dr Kumar Vishwas
  • Modelling agency, New India Models will collaborate with Oasis for the fashion show.
  • Performance by music company, Triple Aces which will present a blend of western and Indian music
  • Theatrical performance by Thespo 12, the theatre institution of Mumbai
  • Screening of award winning movies from many countries
  • Ethnic Zone showcasing village musicians, tribal music and traditional arts
  • Night Treasure Hunt – Locate the treasure and win prizes
  • Oasis Debate – Well known debater, Mr Vipul Chanda, considered as one among the ten Asia’s best speakers, will be the Chief Adjudicator for the Oasis Debate.
  • Main sponsors of Oasis 2010 are : Blackberry, ONGC, Monte Carlo and Knorr.

In order to promote village handicrafts, the National Service Scheme of BITS has tied up with several NGOs for the exhibition and sale of village handicrafts, potteries, garments and decorative items which might interest the outstation participants and guests.

Promising a great Oasis this year, President of the BITS Student Union, Mr Govindam Yadav said, “We are making all efforts to make this year’s Oasis indeed special. The Organising Committee promises to give you 96 hours of fun, frolic and excitement. There is a prize money of over 6.5 lakhs in cash and many more other prizes to be won. With over 4000 students from 80 colleges converging at BITS, it would be a memorable event”.
