Pilani, India, 21 September 2010: Four BITS Pilani students selected for Aditya Birla Group Scholarship 2010
Four first year students of BITS Pilani, namely, Miss Ankita Sarda and Mr Shuja Shabir (BE – Computer Science ) and Mr Vaibhav Grewal and Mr Prakash Singh (BE- Electrical and Electronics Engineering) have been selected for the prestigious Aditya Birla Group Scholarships of 2010. These four BITSians are among the 23 bright students chosen for this year’s award. The scholarship event took place in ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai on 18th September 2010.
Out of the 23 scholarships awarded this year, 11 scholarships were given to Science/Technology category which includes different IITs and BITS and 12 were given to the IIMs. Among the Science/Technology category institutions, BITS bagged the highest number of awards this year.
The distinguished panel of judges consisted of Mr Rajat Gupta, Director, McKinsey & Company, Prof R V Hosur, Director, Department of Atomic Energy’s Center for Excellence in Basic Science, Prof Deepak Mathur, Senior Professor, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, Mr R Balakrishnan, Managing Director, Lowe Lintas, Mumbai, Mr B K Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission, Mr T N Ninan, Editor and Chairman, Business Standard and Dr Rajiv Kumar, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi.
Aditya Birla Scholarship which are offered to meritorious students of IITS, IIMs and BITS Pilani every year, covers the academic fees as well as the hostel fees for the duration of the course, commencing with the academic session of the first year. The scholars are assessed regularly on qualitative and quantitative parameters to judge their performance on the academic achievement and leadership.
Aditya Birla Scholarships (ABS), instituted in 1999, is a way of pursuing the ideals of late Sri Aditya Vikram Birla, the founder of Aditya Birla Group, who believed that the success or failure of an organization depends on people - on human beings, on their talent, on their enterprise. “ ABS program is not just about academic excellence; aspiring scholars are evaluated on holistic parameters that take on board their extra curricular activities, leadership qualities, values, vision …. their dreams”, the ABS website says.
