Mumbai, India, August 18, 2010: NASSCOM Foundation’s Great Collection Drive, in collaboration with , an NGO, was hugely successful. Held in Mumbai and Delhi between Aug 6-10, 2010, the drive saw employees of NASSCOM member companies contributing wholeheartedly. Around 150 cartons of essentials like clothes, books and stationary were collected.

The essentials thus collected will be distributed to those who can use this across 21 states in India.

The hugely successful event was extended to Chennai and Hyderabad by companies volunteering to participate in the collection drive and help provide clothes, books and stationary to as many less fortunate individuals.

Companies like CSC, Xchanging, Aegis Ltd., Mphasis, Herald Logic, Nexsus Techno Solutions, Netmagic Solutions, Saba Software, Infrasoft Technologies, Newgen, Global eProcure, Medusind Solutions India, Aricent, UnitedHealth group, Hughes Systique Corporation, Inautixopened their campuses, their hearts and their personal closets to help as many people as they could.

Mr. Pradiman Pandita, AVP, Hughes Systique Corporation [HSC] shared his experience, “The response of HSCians to NASSCOM Foundation’s Great Collection Drive was heartwarming. The zeal to make donation drive a success percolated down right from the senior management who actively participated by donating generously. Deriving satisfaction, thought of helping someone in a small way; were few of the prime reasons HSCians came forward to be a part of this initiative. Though not too big an organization in terms of head count, HSC was able to send around 8 cartons of material. We hope NASSCOM Foundation keeps organizing similar initiatives in future as well. It will always have HSC’s unfaltering support for all such wonderful initiatives.

On this occasion Ms. Sagarika Bose, Vice President-Programs,NASSCOM Foundation said, “There are two key benefits of donating- personal and environmental. Personal as there is the feel good factor that emerges from helping others and environmental as donating gives a second lease of life to material goods by keeping items out of landfills and helping to preserve the environment. The ‘giving-back’ sentiment among IT organizations and employees is very huge. We are very happy to be the bridge between the IT industry and the community.”

Mr. Anshu Gupta, Founder Director, Goonj added, “I am happy that a respected industry body like NASSCOM has taken up this initiative. GOONJ works across the country on highlighting basic but neglected needs of the poor and we want to involve as many entities as possible. In the last ten year we have shown how the so called discard of urban India can act as a powerful development resource for village and slum India. We welcome all the individuals and corporates who have joined this initiative.
