Chennai, India, March 9, 2010 : Chennai city witnessed its first ever Mountain Biking adventure challenge on Sunday at the newly laid Hercules Mountain Bike Park at premise at Ambattur. Hercules Roadeos Mountain Biking Challenge was organized by TI Cycles, a part of Murugappa Group. The event saw participation of more than 400 students from 38 schools across Chennai. The students, all within the age group of 13 to 15 years stunned the audience with their splendorous bike riding skills.

The competition started 10 days prior to the main event. Off the 400 participants, six finalists were short listed based on their consistent performance over the period of the competition.

After a grueling final tuff, one worthy winner took home the Hercules Roadeos Mountain Biking Challenger title. Mr. Arun Alagappan, Sr. Vice President, Retail & BSA Motors TI Cycles distributed prizes to the winners and runners up, amongst the roaring applaud and cheer by the parents and friends.

“It’s a rewarding experience to see how much joy and confidence, kids gain from mountain biking. This is a first ever mountain biking park in India and we have started this competition with an aim to make mountain biking a regular phenomenon of the high school sports map. We already have 15 Schools who have expressed their interest to start Mountain biking clubs. These clubs in schools will have no joining fee. In the next phase we plan to roll out similar program in residential areas. The objective is to give teenagers a chance to experience the fun of adventure sporting which is a rare effort in Indian cities. ” said Mr. Arun Alagappan, Sr. Vice President, Retail & BSA Motors TI Cycles.

“I congratulate all the participants and thank the parents and the school staff who had been very supportive throughout to make this competition a grand success” added Mr. Alagappan.

The thrill and excitement of participating in an adventurous sport like Mountain Biking at the muddy tracks of the newly laid Hercules Mountain Bike Park at TI Cycles, was a dream come true for many of these young cycling enthusiasts.

Certificates and trophies were given to all the participants and the schools respectively.
